After-party
Oct. 16th, 2022 08:32 pmSo, Mum and I are still fairly tired from all the excitement - but a good kind of tired, mind you. We did the weekly washing today, and I did a lot of small detail work for my craft project, the Xmas-themed quiet book.
We ate leftovers and watched Das Große Backen, the German version of the GBBO. Alas, the baker I was rooting for didn't make it in the finals, and I fear that the guy I wanted to fail is going to win the whole thing. Ah, well, we can only see the bakes, not try them, so perhaps he's really good. I still don't like him, though.
IT neighbour finally came today and brought the iPad mini back. Now I can at least check my Hotmail post; still unable to access my Gmail account, and the 'expert' doesn't know how because he doesn't use his tablet for such things.
Alas, the mini will have to be replaced, soon. Until recently, its outdated Safari was still able to connect to DW; now it cannot. And I haven't been able to read LJ comments for quite some time; they simply won't show up. I can't read stories on FF.Net since they've installed their new security check, and I can't connect to AO3, either, only to the insecure version. Wikipedia is also out of reach on the mini, so a new one will definitely be due in the not too distant future. But at least I can - hopefully - still take photos and send them to myself via Hotmail, so be prepared for some craft-related picspam, soon.

Date: 2022-10-16 08:47 pm (UTC)Oh man, that poor old iPad is really reaching the end of its lifespan, huh... I hate how they keep supporting older devices and then you are forced to upgrade tech which is still fully functional. Mom has that problem with her cell phone. It works just fine, but the only browsers running on that ancient Android version have been outdated for years, so she is getting more and more error messages.

Date: 2022-10-17 04:29 pm (UTC)Why can´t we older people let go of our outdated devices? Hubby cannot connect to the internet anymore, my tablet does only function when plugged in... Of course, we are able to buy new ones, but is it worth all the hassle?

Date: 2022-10-18 12:35 pm (UTC)My old mini died a long time ago. Since then I've refused to buy another Apple product because they seem to have built-in obsolescence. Since then I've been buying Kindle Fire tablets. They cost much less but seem to do the trick. They slow down fairly quickly too, but at least they're much cheaper to replace.
