... didn't turn out as expected. I went to the hairdresser's in the morning because I didn't want to look like an overused toilet brush on my own birthday (next Sunday). The plan was to visit several craft shops afterward, but after the second one I got too nervous because Mum wasn't picking up the phone and hurried home. It turned out that she had simply fallen asleep and didn't hear the ringing, but by then it was too late for me to go anywhere else.

Due to Germany's national holiday all the programmes I usually watch in the late morning and early afternoon were cancelled in lieu of the umpteenth repetitions of "Finding Nemo" and other such films. So I used the time for a nap and for the great button project. Now I have 10 little metal rings for my craft projects, and two pillow cases have more useful buttons.

Since we had breakfast really late (after I'd come home), we only ate leftover soup for lunch. Cheesy pasta got postponed for tomorrow. As mentioned, I took a little nap in the afternoon, then I talked to my friend Evie on the phone and watched the German version of the GBBO - which, apparently, counted as festive programme. Weird.

I noticed that the TV stuff wasn't very holiday like yesterday. Very weird.
Not that I had time to watch TV.

I am intrigued by your comments about metal ring fasteners on pillow cases. I don't think I've ever seen them in the UK.

I completely forgot about the national holiday in Germany. That was until I turned on the radio and heard about the traffic jams in town. Always happens, when there's a holiday beyond the border. Revenge will come on October 26th, then it's the other way round!

I think they are a result of mass production: basically small aluminium rings (0.5 cm in diameter) waved around and across with thread (most likely by machines) that serve as buttons. I cut through the thread with a pair of sharp, pointy scissors and lay the rings bare, so that they can be used for other purposes and sew real buttons on the pillow cases.

I'm ashamed to admit that I have no idea what you people celebrate on October 26.

Usually, I need TV for background when I'm crafting. Except when it comes to the GGBO and its various sequels. Those we both watch religiously. *g*

So your pillow cases button closed? That is luxurious. Ours just slip on and remain open at one end. Glad your Mum was okay, what a scare.

It´s our national holiday. Nothing of importance now that I am retired.

Yes, the great majority of them are still button closed. We have a few that just slip on, but I don't like those, honestly. Some pillows are too soft and just keep slipping out...

Yeah, I'm in constant worry about Mum I'm afraid. *sigh*
