... are needed sometimes. So today I took down "Torchwoodgate" both from AO3 and FF.Net, for safety's sake. There is no way I'd be able to properly rewrite Chapter 4 within the next 5 days or so, and if someone was vengeful enough to report the story on AO3, they might come after me on FF.Net as well. And FF.Net has the tendency to yank one's entire account without warning - I didn't want to risk that. I wrote up the statistics in my diary and saved the reviews to my HD, but that's that. A shame, it was one of my more popular stories. *sigh*

I also locked the chapter on LJ for maintainers only on my comm, just in case. Since I'm the only maintainer, I won't report myself. And other people will just have to live with the fact that there's a chapter they won't be able to access for a while.

I was also radical re: the deep sea page. Since I've botched up two different sea creatures, I decided to leave their places empty and add them later, when I'm more inspired. They'll be fixed with press studs, so I can add them any time I want, even when the book is finished and bound already. Instead, I sew on the rest of the applications, like the seashell-shaped sequins and the sparkly pom-poms that are meant to represent sea-hedgehogs, as well as a lot more pearls for the coral. I'm fairly pleased with the outcome, and this way I'll be able to stitch the deep sea page together with the castle puzzle page, even though two elements are still missing, and seam them.

Other than that, I worked a lot on my Big Fishies(TM) - two of them are nearly done, another two only missing the eyes, and another three bases are cut out. The cunning plan is to make all 7 of them so far ready that only the mouths would need to be added. We'll see.

Taking the entire fic down for now does seem like the best solution, radical as it is. It will give you peace of mind knowing your accounts are safe to work on the rewrite in your own time, where you can hopefully find some enjoyment in it.

That was the basic idea, yes. It still hurt, though. I mean, I only wanted the info from the other story — namely the things the expedition would need in the first year or so — not the actual wording. It is annoying that I forgot to go back and insert the info into my own wording, but if you consider it was only a couple of paragraphs in one chapter out of 19...

Well that's too bad.

Yeah, can't be helped. They were within their rights to report the story, even though I find it more than a little petty-minded to actually do so. I surely wouldn't have done if things had happened the other way round, but we are different people, apparently.

It's shit that someone reported you story. Can't people get it into their head that if they don't like something, don't read it.

Wise decision, re setting aside something that keeps going wrong. I have no doubt that when you get back to them you will wonder why you found it so difficult the first time around. I've done that with many a crafting project.

The problem was that I used some data from someone else's story and then promptly forgot to get back to the stuff and rewrite the wording. It isn't so that I'd have stolen their plot or whatnot — my story is completely different, and it was only a couple of paragraphs anyway — but, well, technically they were without their right.

What I have learned those last two years is that a lot of people turned from frightened to bored to vengeful. Another bad thing brought to us by Covid!

As mentioned before, 12 years ago, when I originally wrote the story, I included parts from someone else's fic, regarding what the team ought to take with them on a one-way mission, with the intention to completely re-write it... and then forgot about the rewriting. I didn't steal their plot or anything, I just used a few paragraphs where the actual packing lists were, then went on with the story and forgot to go back to this part and rephrase the whole thing. The story itself is completely different, I just had the team take the same things with them — and didn't change he wording because I'm a distracted fool.

Why they needed to report this heinous crime 12 years later is another question entirely, of course.

Sadly, that is true. Not that people would need much to become mean-spirited and vengeful, mind you. :(

Ah. What a stupid thing to complain about. Someone needs something else to do.

They do. I'm very disheartened by the whole thing, to be honest.

Don't let it get you down, it's an easily understandable slip-up, along the lines of posting with beta comments still visible. I find it funny that someone would seriously report such. But then, there are those that love making mountains out of molehills.

I don't understand this kind of attitude. :(
