... from the time when we still lived in Transylvania and didn't have running water in the house. Mum had to pull it from the well in the courtyard, and we'd have it in big pots and whatnot.

This week, the water pipes behind the loos will be replaced in the entire house. It's actually time, as they're almost 50 years old. So, today some work was done in the basement, which meant that there wasn't water from 8 o'clock to 2pm. They said there wouldn't be any up to 5pm, but apparently, they were faster.

Starting tomorrow, they'll go into the individual flats to take the loo apart. The wall behind the loo is basically a piece of steel, that could be removed for exactly such purposes. Of course, it has been removed exactly twice in the last 50 years, so I foresee the cleaning up of a great lot of dirt afterwards. *sigh*

Tomorrow we also had choir practice, which was fun. We'll have a shared concert with the Oldies on Sunday, so some of them came to practice a bit with us. It was nice to see them, I haven't gone to that choir for a year and a half and missed it. But with things being as they had been since Mum's accident, and the worsening of the Covid situation, I didn't dare to risk it. Perhaps next year. We'll see.

I also made some nice progress with Janka's quiet book. Working on the deep sea page now. I've managed to make a really nice coral, with lots of appendages. I think it looks great, although I might be biased, of course. So great, indeed, that I've spontaneously changed the page design that would have contained a really big, fat fish. Now I find that it would be a shame to overshadow the artistic coral, so there will be various smaller sea creatures, while the fish, which I've already cut out, will be turned into a felt toy on its own. One has to be very flexible with this crafting stuff. *g*

That does sound like there's going to be quite the mess after they've done the work.

Yay choir!

The deep sea page sounds pretty.

Yikes, that sounds like you will have a lot of dirt, noise and discomfort to deal with this week. But with the pipes being so ancient, I guess it is better it is being done now than waiting until something breaks. Hope you can get through this alright, and get away from it sometimes maybe.

According to our neighbour (they had their turn today) the mess isn't too bad. Let's hope she's right.

I'm fairly content with the deep sea page so far.

So do I. Especially as we won't have water and the drainage system can't be used while the guys are working.

Our neighbour, who had her turn today, says that it is actually bearable. It only lasts half the day, as the different teams work in different etaps; which is why I can't get away. They need to be able to enter the flat at any given time, and I can't let Mum alone with them.

For the deep sea page I wanted to suggest a mermaid (all girls love mermaids)- but then I realised, that a mermaid has not that many details to pin on her or take off of her, and that the outcome might be G-rated!

Yikes! I had to have my main water pipe replaced in 2018, which involved digging up the street, the driveway and the terrace. It was a huge load of stress, noise and expense. There'll be some mess to clean up, but it's totally worth the hassle to have everything functioning properly!

Ah damn, too bad there is no escaping it, but if it is bearable that's something, at least.

Do you know already when your turn will be?

I've already made a mermaid page once, and as you can see, it's quite modest. *g*

Some of the surrounding sea creatures will be repeated on the new deep sea page, too.

And behold my individual mermaid dolls. They were quite the hit on the Christmas market a few years ago (even though they all have odd-looking throats, due to the clumsy stuffing job I did):

It seems that in our ten-storey concrete monstrosity it's done fairly quickly and smoothly. *fingers crossed*

New plumbing should be worth the mess, and it sounds as if they will do the job quickly. Hope that is true for your space. I love the mermaids, and I never could see the fat neck you talked about. I can't wait to see the coral and the deep sea page. The aquatic pages you make are some of my favorites.
