I've worked on the central motif of the birthday cake page today. It proved a lot more fussy than expected, as the felt I chose for the cake body was fairly soft (though also on the slightly thicker side; I chose it for the colour concept), and so it had to be stabilized by several stitched lines to keep the zipper I embedded functional. Then I had to remove the decoration I'd already sewn on because the outcome was too kitschy. Not fun!

But at least the cake itself is almost done now. I need to sew it onto the page base, add the Velcro for the candles and do the bunting above, but that is roughly a day's work. Two days, tops. Afterwards, I have to stitch it together with the front cover and seam the whole thing, which is tedious and boring, but that won't happen until next week, I'm afraid. Or the week after, as next week is supposed to be very busy.

We had laundry day today, and I cooked Topfenknödel mit Tütensuppe, because I'm a lazy git. For the rest of the afternoon I was reading fanfic - my own. I've finished An Autumn Fair in Halabor and will probably continue with its sister story, The Shoemaker's Daughter, which hasn't been updated for 5 years. I'd like to think that re-reading it would inspire me to continue, but I don't really hope so. Too bad, it is the very basics of all my Halabor stories, many of them long finished, but this one frequently comes to a screeching halt. I might have more luck with Sea Flower, as Tolkienfic goes, although the most realistic approach would be Kindred Spirits. Which is a vastly different fandom, but at least half the last chapter and the epilogue is written, so I might us the momentum of the next [livejournal.com profile] picowrimo session to get it out of my hair.
