I've finished seaming one of the deep sea pages. The stitches aren't as straight and even as I'd prefer them, but after having undone one side, oh, I think seven times and the eight version wasn't any better, I decided to leave it as it is. I seriously doubt that the two-year-old recipients would notice - or care. It is me who's annoyed when I can't produce the quality I've aimed for, but sometimes you just have to let things go.

The dratted seaming ate half my day; in the rest of time I made Mum's favourite potato cream soup and we ate the bagels I bought yesterday as sandwiches afterwards. I'll never buy the things again. They were expensive and they were rubbery. I'll stick to the buns we always buy and be done with it.

I also managed to write a few paragraphs, pushing Kindred Spirits closer to completion with painful slowness. It's like walking through molasses, honestly. There is only a little bit to write yet, but inspiration just wouldn't work. Still, I hope I can get it out of my hair before the next [livejournal.com profile] picowrimo session starts. I want to do something different for a change!

I know how you feel about the bagels. There are two places around here to get jalapeno cheese bagels, one is called Posh Bagel and the other one is the second closest Safeway to where I live. (Safeway, being a very large grocery chain, usually has the same stuff at every branch but for some reason they only have jalapeno cheese bagels at this one Safeway). one time I didn't have the time or energy to go to that Safeway because I don't have a car and Posh Bagel was right in my neighborhood so I got the jalapeno cheese bagels at Posh Bagel which turned out to be a mistake because they weren't as good as the Safeway ones AND they were more expensive!

I rarely buy bagels for the same reason. When I have, I tend to toast them after the first day. Smoked salmon and cream cheese on a toasted bagel is yummy. Expensive, but yummy.

I feel like you about bagels — I'm never sure why so many people enthuse over them. I have had them toasted and they are at least a bit more edible then.

I dunno, this was my first experience with bagels and, I think, the last one, too.

I was definitely not impressed — it's just so that I saw in the GBBO and Paul Hollywood's City Bakes how people went crazy over them and wanted to see what the whole fuss was about. Not an experience I'm eager to repeat.

I never had bagels before — I think I won't have any in the future, either.

Let's hope so. I want to be done with this project.

A fresh bagel can taste heavenly! But, like I said, it has to be freshly baked!

I'll take your word on it. No more experimenting for me.

I'm probably weird but I miss the slightly rubbery bagels I remember buying in the US. We have bagels here, but I can tell the bakeries never boil them before baking.
