First I made the obligatory food run - with serious extensions, as Aldi had lots of things we like on sale, so I ended up with two large bags to haul home (I even had to buy one of the bags because the one I had with me simply wasn't large enough). It's only right that I treated myself to some more craft supplies on the way back, isn't it? Besides, I only bought some crystal stickers.

Then I had to cook, which was relatively easy as all I made was potato cream soup, the one Mum likes so much. We had that for lunch, with the Marillen-Vanillepudding Taschen I bought at Aldi and coffee.

In the meantime we had to do the laundry. Usually Saturday is laundry day, but tomorrow Mum's oldest friend is coming for a short visit. They haven't met for more than a year, and at their age that's a long time. So we had to do the laundry today, plus I offered to make an apple tart. It meant peeling and cubing a heap of very small, very hard apples that we wouldn't be able to eat raw anyway, and hadn't I cut my finger with the potato peeler earlier, it wouldn't have been a problem, either. Funny that one needs all ten fingers intact to function properly.

The apple tart is still in the oven - I'll have to take a look, soon - and my finger seems to be healing. All is well over here, then.

Hmmm ... apple cake ... or tart ... or whatever.
I'll probably bake something with apples as well tomorrow as we have TONS!

This is a simple Rührteig, with chopped apples and bananas and slightly roasted almond slices on top. I can give you the recipe if you want it — it's really easy. Peeling and chopping the apples is what actually takes time, the rest is done in minutes.

There truly seems to have been a plan about them being ten..Or maybe it's just habit. In any case good that the injured one is healing!

It isn't a big cut — just in an inconvenient place.

A lot of achievement! The cooking sounds delicious (as always) and I have to say, trips to Aldi often and up with unplanned purchases! But always big savings!

And hooray for more crystal stickers!

The shiny, self-adhesive little things I decorate the lolly stick items with. They look like crystals, although are probably plastic.

We've been so poor in my childhood that looking for sales and sáv inges became second nature for me.

My shopping was delivered last night. Yay! I have salad. Your soup sounds yummy, though.

Apple cake time is the best time of the year! T´was the first year the apples on my tree grew big enough to be of use. They taste really good, but there´s a lot of worm holes to be found. And since Youtube provided a foolproof recipe I did a cake, too! I am sure your mum and her friend had enough topics to talk about after such a long hiatus!

They talk every day on the phone but it was a nice get-together nonetheless.
Congratulations on the apple cake!

My Grandmother lived through wars (like so many others) and she had 5 kids, so I learned a lot about being thrifty from her.
