Today we woke up to strong winds and mild rain, with temperatures dropping at least ten degrees (Celsius). The bad news is that in rain the insulation work did not continue, so the whole thing will take longer than expected (=feared). The good news is that it was finally cool enough to bake!

Behold my Spitzbuben:

These are basically three-tiered almond biscuits, glued together with nougat cream and sour cherry jam, respectively. I have no idea why they're called Spitzbuben, which, if I'm not mistaken, means roughly the same as "urchins" in English. The recipe is from the book "Kochvergnügen wie noch nie", and is one I've been wanting to try for a long time but somehow never came around to actually do it. Now I've done it, and Mum and I both approve of the outcome. Spitzbuben will definitely remain on the menu.

I also cooked today. Made Mary Berry's Malay Chicken Rice, which also turned out very well. Nothing else was achieved on this day, but I'm content with the things I've done.

Isn't Spitzbuben more a Christmas cookie thing?

Is it? I just chose a biscuit to which I had the ingredients at hand. *g*

Sad thing is that I always thought that Spitzbuben get baked at Christmas only. Now you can buy them all throughout the year. So many years wasted with not having them...Yours are way more prettier than those sold in the shops!

Cute, aren't they? They're all gone by now. Two neighbours were made very happy with their little taste of goodies, and Mum and I are full up to our ears. *g*

They were very, very yummy indeed. I'll make them more often in the future.

I didn't know that they were Christmas biscuits. In fact, I made them because I like almond biscuits and I had half a jar of nougat creme I needed to use up. But the ones with jam were even better.

Very, very yummy. And not as complicated to make as one would think.
