So, I have lost my satellite TV, after all. They told me that it will be okay, they're simply going to lay the whole insulation over the cable and everything will be peachy. Only that they managed to break the cable at some point during the whole thing - the picture vanished from one moment to the other and never came back.

It is all right, though. I'll have the satellite dish removed. It has served us faithfully for over 27 years, but I'll never get permission to have the cable hanging freely along 8 storeys again. Back when they allowed it, it was a different time, with different people making the decisions; plus, we actually worked for them at that time - Mum as the book-keeper and I as the cashier, both as part-time jobs.

In the meantime many of the channels I liked to watch became either unavailable or of horrible quality because of something or other they did to Astra - or because the strong winds kept rattling the satellite dish. Plus, Mum gets 5 of the German-speaking channels through cable, so if I want to watch, say, Sat1, I can go into the living-room and she'd let me. The only thing I'll actually miss are the zoo reports, but I can watch them online if I want to. Other than that, I won't miss satellite TV all too much... even though the carelessness angers me a little.

On the plus side, Mum and I managed to get to the church this morning. We decided to switch our daily walks to the mornings, since the weather is much more pleasant then. After a year and a half, she was finally able to visit the church, sit and pray there for a few minutes, and then come home. It meant the world for her, even though she still can't attend Mass there on Sundays: too long (she won't be able to sit in the bench for an hour) and too many people (we still don't think it would be safe for her).

So yeah. Today has brought good things and bad things. But I think the good things outweigh the bad ones.

We have no news about my cousin's surgery yet. But we hope it went well.

Hoping the best for cousin's surgery and I'm glad your Mom is doing better.

Yeah, a lot of what you want to watch is probably available on the Mediathek. If you want to watch on the TV screen for size, just hook up your computer to the TV, that's how I get pretty much all my shows these days since what I watch doesn't run on TV

Actually, my computer screen is bigger than my TV, it's just more comfortable to watch TV from the bed. My telly is a 26-year-old analog device, so hooking up with the computer won't be a possibility.
At least this time I'll finally start going through my sizeable collection of DVDs I bought but never got around to watch.

Sorry about the TV ... can't you get yours attached to the cable as well?

And yay mum ... well done!

That is the plan, yes; we'll see if it's possible at all. The cable works on digital channels and my telly is still an analog one.

One has to see the positive side of things in order to prevent a stroke. *g*

Congratulations to your mum, and screw you, workers! Not that satellite TV is what I´d call brilliant, but still...

Hooray for your mom getting back to church!

That's really annoying about the cable, as you say, because they promised it would be alright and then they didn't care enough.

Yeah, it is annoying. Another small thing taken away at a time when one has so little to look forward to. But it can't be helped. And, in the end, it is not essential.

Yes, had they told from the beginning that it needs to be gone would have been a different cup of tea. Or esperesso, in my case.

So good to hear that your mother is doing better, and I’m glad she got to visit her church. She’s doing so well!
The cable company screw-up sounds farcical. I’m pleased to hear that you’ll still be able to watch the zoo reports though.
I got the results of my covid test — negative and all is good! Big relief. Just a particularly vicious cold I think.

The cable company has nothing to do with our satellite dish; we've had it installed on our own, almost three decades ago. We do have official TV via Vodafone (earlier UPC), in the living room, though, so it isn't too bad.

I'm so very happy that your test is negative! Now you just have to get better. *hugs*

Good to see both you and your Mum had a good day, especially since a visit to the church was a goal she had looked forward to reaching. Great progress. Sorry about the satellite. One would think if they broke it, they should repair it for you and at no charge.
