So, I have lost my satellite TV, after all. They told me that it will be okay, they're simply going to lay the whole insulation over the cable and everything will be peachy. Only that they managed to break the cable at some point during the whole thing - the picture vanished from one moment to the other and never came back.
It is all right, though. I'll have the satellite dish removed. It has served us faithfully for over 27 years, but I'll never get permission to have the cable hanging freely along 8 storeys again. Back when they allowed it, it was a different time, with different people making the decisions; plus, we actually worked for them at that time - Mum as the book-keeper and I as the cashier, both as part-time jobs.
In the meantime many of the channels I liked to watch became either unavailable or of horrible quality because of something or other they did to Astra - or because the strong winds kept rattling the satellite dish. Plus, Mum gets 5 of the German-speaking channels through cable, so if I want to watch, say, Sat1, I can go into the living-room and she'd let me. The only thing I'll actually miss are the zoo reports, but I can watch them online if I want to. Other than that, I won't miss satellite TV all too much... even though the carelessness angers me a little.
On the plus side, Mum and I managed to get to the church this morning. We decided to switch our daily walks to the mornings, since the weather is much more pleasant then. After a year and a half, she was finally able to visit the church, sit and pray there for a few minutes, and then come home. It meant the world for her, even though she still can't attend Mass there on Sundays: too long (she won't be able to sit in the bench for an hour) and too many people (we still don't think it would be safe for her).
So yeah. Today has brought good things and bad things. But I think the good things outweigh the bad ones.
We have no news about my cousin's surgery yet. But we hope it went well.

Date: 2021-08-14 03:25 am (UTC)The cable company screw-up sounds farcical. I’m pleased to hear that you’ll still be able to watch the zoo reports though.
I got the results of my covid test — negative and all is good! Big relief. Just a particularly vicious cold I think.
