We survived the bi-weekly cleaning in an only slightly battered state; but again, I'm always battered after such a frenzy. My dearly loved rag rug has begun to dissolve itself beyond relief, so with much heartache I decided to throw it out. I'll never have such a wonderful rug again! I don't know what kind of stuff it was made of, but it remained wonderfully cool, even in the hottest summer!

Now I have a small, knotted rug in my bedroom. A cheap, machine-made one, but I like the colours. It has served in the living room for many years, but I think it will do well in mine, too. Still, the general picture of my bedroom is... strange. I've had that old, red and white striped rag rug for at least 30 years, and having something entirely different in the middle of the room is - well, jarring. Mind you, the so-called middle of the room is a 70cm by 2m "large" space, but still.

We also decided to put one of Mum's rugs back into the living room. We took both rugs up after the accident (well, I did), but the room seemed so empty and lifeless without them. So we put back one, in front of the balcony door, where there's no danger of Mum getting caught in its corner... or so I hope. I know it is a risk, but there are rugs in the anteroom and the kitchen as well, and, to be honest, this is part of getting our lives back. Not much of it, but the living room begins to remind of a home again, instead of a haphazardly arranged sick room. The soul needs its food, too.

In other news, I've posted the first part of "Pathways in the Dark - the evolution of a series" (aka my essay/meta... thing) to [livejournal.com profile] hiddenrealms, for those interested in vampire crossovers. All two pages of it. It ought to be a quick and easy read. *g*
