Sunday being quiet

... is a good thing, especially right before the next cleaning frenzy. Sometimes I have the feeling that my life is a precarious balance from one big cleaning to the next one. Not how I've imagined retirement, but I haven't imagined Covid turning our lives upside down, either.

Anyway, I did some writing, some cooking, rearranged another part of my craft cupboard (still not satisfied with that part) and helped Mum prepare the flat for the holy cleaning.

Yeah, I know. Boring like hell. But at least without problems (for the time being).

Irgendwer hat einmal gesagt "Man ist nur für kurze Zeit jung, dafür oft sehr lange alt". Der Teil des Noch-nicht-so -alt seins, in dem wir noch Pläne haben und auch verwirklichen können, wurde gerade erheblich eingeschränkt. Und irgendwie haben wir uns damit abgefunden...

How often do you do this cleaning? It seems like very often to me... which tells you something about my cleaning habits ;)

When my mother came to visit, she used to take out the mop and give the kitchen floor a quick once-over after she'd settled in. I was so irritated--because I did always clean up before she came! But she had that unstoppable European drive to keep the house spotless. Every Saturday was cleaning day when we were kids. Ugh.

Every second Monday — and even so, Mum is constantly unhappy about our flat drowning in filth. When she was doing the cleaning, she did it on Saturdays, too.

Cleaning is not something I do on any kind of regular basis. Don't get me wrong...my home looks fine, but I do dusting etc when the mood takes me and in small chunks.

I don't really have a choice. Mum is obsessed with this regular cleaning thing, and it is easier to give in than to fight about the necessity of it all the time. At least we have help, but even so, I really hate it.

True, true. It's just the canon fever getting to me from time to time. I haven't been any further than the nearby shops for three frigging years!!! Well, almost. Those trips to the dentist's last summer don't really count.

Cleaning is boring but I always feel good about the result. Writing and cooking are always good too! Sounds like the day wasn't all bad :)

I hate cleaning with the passion of a thousand burning suns. It's so pointless! The effect never lasts more than a couple of days, tops.
