And completely self-generated, too. I actually cut out the 30 teeny little beaks for my birdies in the morning, while watching my beloved zoo reports with half an eye. All I'd have to do was to glue them on. Time to open the champagne and all that, right?

But then it occurred to me that it would be nice to write a short message on their back. I found a quote that - translated into English - roughly means: Don't compare your steps with those of the others; your way leads into a different direction. I find this really meaningful, so I grabbed an acrylic pen - or rather several acrylic pens of different colours - and wrote it onto the back of every single owl. All 30 of them. As the owls are only 8cm by 6cm, it was really finicly work. Fortunately, I can write with tiny, pretty letters if I give it an honest try. Mostly anyway.

So, the birdies had their message; but then I found that their backs looked unfinished and, well, naked that way. So I grabbed my acrylic pens again and drew the contours on their backs as well. By then, my hands cramped, and I decided to leave the applying of the beaks for another day.

What can I say? I just love to make my own life more complicated. *g*

I went to school to fetch the eggs I ordered last week, met a few of my girls, which was nice, discovered a store near the school where they still sold Mum's favourite washing powder (if you think it doesn't matter which washing powder we use you're mistaken; Mum does have her preferences) and bought six boxes to fill up our dwindling storage. I also bought a 1000gr-package of our favourite coffee as they sold it at a reasonable price.

The whole thing - plus the eggs, plus the jar of strawberry jam my friend Evie gifted upon me to celebrate my appearance at school - weighed a ton, of course, and I still had to make a food run on my way home. As I also strained my back a bit during yesterday's cleaning frenzy (moving furniture isn't the fun people try to make you believe it is), dragging all this plus the groceries home was slightly unpleasant. A good thing the supermarket is right at the next corner.

Since Mum is on her toast-and-boiled-potato-diet (again), I used up some food rests to make little ham pasties for myself. Namely, half a glass of creme freche, some cold cuts, a package of puff pastry, some leftover cheese and the likes. The little pasties look like a natural disaster, as I cut the puff pastry too small and couldn't properly close the pasties, so half the filling ran out during baking, but they taste heavenly, and I won't have to cook for myself tomorrow. Which is a good thing, as tomorrow I'll have to go to the bank, which is an ordeal of its own.

So, all in all, it was a fairly busy day, but at least I have something accomplished in all that stress. And since the physiotherapist was here, we took Mum down to the street again, so she could enjoy a few minutes of warmth and sunshine.

Oh, and the newest Net delight - due to some pop-up blocker I didn't even know I had, now I'm unable to print out letters directly from gmail. I assume this is another "achievement" of the brand new version of Firefox that got installed on my PC automatically.

Update: Okay, I've just checked via my outdated, not-supported IE - it is Firefox! Just as the no longer functioning Back button. Dammit, why am I such an idiot that I can't re-install the older version? *grrrrrrrrrrr*

Sounds like you had a lot of purchases you had to lug around.
And of course we all have a preferred brand of washing powder!

Actually, I don't. But I'm not the one who gets to say what's being used.

That's a lovely touch to the owls, even if it means a delay in getting them finished. I think it will be worth it!

I think that's a lovely idea, and you've only delayed finishing by a day.

My estranged spouse was VERY particular about which detergents soaps shampoo etc we could use. To look at him he was a big brute but his skin was very sensitive. Of course back then the anti allergen stuff was more expensive but it so obviously worked better for him. Now my daughter is the same way.
I think what you've done with the owls is so thoughtful. And they are really sweet. :)

I skipped the part about the pastries after a few words, or I'd get hungry again. I do not have a favourite washing powder, but my friend has. That's why we used to do regular car trips to Germany (we don't get this special brand here) to buy some. Friend was in hysterics when they closed the border.

The message on the owls is a really meaningful one,, although it did mean the extra work.

I was thinking, as I read about your shopping 'Gosh that must have been heavy!' then I read that it definitely was :(

Your pasties sound lovely and tasty though. And good that your Mum got out for a little walk, too.

Fortunately, we don't have an allergy problem. Mum just prefers the brand because it is less expendive and still does a good job.

Frankly, we just buy this brand because it is cheap. It cleans just ad well as the more expensive ones which is probably why it had all but vanished from the shops. The customers shouldn't be spoiled, after all.

A good many tests confirmed that the cheap ones often clean better than the expensive ones! Were you able to solve the problems with the new Firefox update? There are some pages from where you can download the older version. So if you have someone who can help you with this task it will easy-peasy to get it going the way you were used to!
