Saturday means laundry day, which is bad enough. But today Mum decided that it's high time to cook something sensible, so there was Wiener Schnitzel for lunch. Which isn't bad in itself - on the contrary, it is very yummy.

But Mum insists on making them herself, and that means the kitchen turns into a battlefield. Not because she's a careless person - far from it - but she can't use her dominant hand properly, due to a street mobbing a decade and a half ago, and her eyesight is rather poor, so she doesn't actually see the mess she makes. It took me an hour and a half to clean up after her, and cleaning up someone else's mess is always magnitudes worse than cleaning up one's own. *g*

Still, I'm grateful that she's well enough to pick up some of her usual work around the house - even if it makes my life more complicated. *sigh*

Nonetheless, I could put aside an hour or two to work on Theo's cooking book. The front cover is nearly done.

This was the original design:

The little chef has been combined together from two kitchen-themed colouring pages I found somewhere on the Internet. There will be a title somewhere eventually - the book will be called "Der kleine Chef" (= the little chef), I just don't know yet where I'll place it.

And this is the resolution - the same little chef, hand-sewn from felt:

I swear by my Grandma's (nonexistent) bike that it isn't half this craggy in real life. Sometimes too much sunlight isn't good for a picture, either. I have no idea how to fasten him on the front cover yet - probably with double-sided tape, plus a ton of glue for fabric or whatnot. It was frigging hard work to sew him in a single day, but I'm fairly content. Perhaps I'll undo his mouth later to iron out that crooked corner; or perhaps not. We'll see. He'll only go onto the cover when the whole journal is finished.
