So, I've made the base of Theo's cooking book. After some procrastination I decided to make a size A/5 envelope journal.
In case anyone is interested, the method is taken from this tutorial.
It is really quite easy, even though my journals always end up a bit crooked, due to my serious problems with doing anything in a straight line.

Anyway, I was of two minds about the cover for a while. The first idea was to make it of craft paper and cover it with clear self-adhesive film, to keep it clean later. But it would have been way too stiff that way. So I've decided to use the slim roll of self-adhesive fabric I bought at Lidl because... well, because it was pretty. Even though I generally hate blue. But this medium blue with white polka dots is so cute, and the colour will fit a pre-school boy without being too baby-ish, I think. Also, this solution would result in a cover that - hopefully - would be more elastic and easier to handle by a young child.

Placing two heavy dictionaries on the book to make the glue work, I then went to school, where I met with my friend Erna, who's making for me that knitted waistcoat. The few kids at the afternoon workshop had fun watching me try on the half-finished thing. It was nice to see my girls again, even if only for a short time and from a two-metre-distance. Our fearless leader had announced that we'd won against the virus, but no-one really believes it(*), so better safe than sorry.

I then made the obligatory food run and came home like a beast of burden. But at least the weather behaved itself, which was a relief since I forgot to take my umbrella with me. When I came home, Mum and I ate all the leftovers that were in the fridge, then we made our daily walk down our loooooong corridor to the rubbish chute and back, so yeah, we were both very active today. ;)

(*) Save for the idiots who now think they no longer need to wear a mask - a species that, unfortunately, seems to spread like the virus itself.

You hate blue?! That's unusual, need to keep that in mind.

I think it comes from two facts:
1 — as a child, I often inherited clothes from my cousins who all happened to be boys;
2 — for some reason large size clothes come way too often in blue, grey or black.

Yes, that was a relief indeed. Now the strong winds are back and we fear what tomorrow might come. *sigh*

I watched about one half of the video, and this envelope method is very appealing to me. I've bookmarked the video so I can easily return to it. I would like to make one for my daughter, who loves little journals.

We are having very cold weather today, and it's raining all day. Brrrr!

I look forward to seeing your project for Theo's cooking book. I was thinking, I could even make the journal a recipe book for my daughter, with some of our family recipes.

That's good that the weather behaved.

The journal is indeed surprisingly easy to make. I made some with 10-year-olds when I was still working. And once the base is made, you can unfold your creativity by the decoration.

Now you have given me a great idea for a friend´s birthday present. Though this one will turn 70 in two months I might use the plain pages for fotos and the pocket of the envelope for small presents!

It is a very versatile design and blessedly easy to make. Even if mine are always a bit schief und krumm — fortunately, none of the recipients seemed to mind so far. Or they were too polite to do so. *g*

All days seem to be busy when you have an elderly parent to take care of, but I'm happy to have her, hopefully for a long time yet. And yeah, meeting the girls is always a delight.

Cool idea, the envelope book! Little Emma and Theo are very special, I am sure Theo will love his cooking book. Virus restrictions have been relaxed here also, but our family, at least, still masks and practices social distancing. Hope the weather stays nice for you two. Good to see your Mum walking more.

Nice weather never lasts; we had rain today. Again. At least the balcony held... so far. *sigh*
Theo's grandma says (we've just spoken on the phone) that he's very interested in cooking books, so I hope he'll like his personalized one.
