Thank you, [livejournal.com profile] noadvertising, for your recent post! Since I forgot to buy my German tv programme (I got so used to the fact that it was unavailable for a year or so due to Covid), I was wondering why all the programmes I find tolerable were replaced with utter sh*t, like Ross Antony's most idiotic shows. Now I know: Sat1 is in festive mode. At least I can hope that normalcy will return tomorrow. Not that Auf Streife and its various spin-offs would be the height of entertainment, but they're still magnitudes better than what was being shown today. *grrrrrrrrrr!*

Other than that, we're okay. I went to school in mildly falling rain to order my eggsies - not that I'd have even touched the last batch. Obviously, I need to bake something egg-heavy on the weekend. I'm thinking of Mary Berry's cherry cake, since I still have heaps of leftover candied cherries that I also need to use up. Eventually.

On my way home I made a quick food run to Aldi. The plan was to haul up the goodies and then go down to Lidl again, for mineral water, ginger ale and perhaps some fresh fruit, but honestly, I was too drained to do so. Consequently, we had leftover soup and I made cheese noodles. So, no cooking tomorrow, which means I might get my act together and do the second half of the grocery shopping.

Now I'm going to put up the next chapter of "A Stitch in Time" to AO3. This is the last finished chapter, but I'll try to complete another one until next week. After that - we'll see.

Festive mode on Ascension Day in Germany??? That's one of the worst days I can think of, because it's also Father's Day, when so many have one too many!

I feel like most German TV is utter crap these days, to be honest. There are only a few programmes I still watch regularly.
But yes, on holidays it seems to be even worse!

My favourites are the zoo reports on the regional channels β€” and, of course, Das Große Backen. But I watch German TV regularly because I don't want to forget the language. Vocabulary can deteriorate so easily if you don't use it all the time, at least passively.

They turn the programme upside down each time it's some kind of holiday; any kind of holiday, in fact!

I don't care about the TV programme during the day at all, holiday or not. 😁
I usually don't turn on the TV before 7.

I have a surfeit of eggs, too, and was just thinking much the same thing β€” bake to use them up. I haven't quite got any further with the thought yet β€” we'll see what happens.

You sound exhausted in this post. I hope you manage to get some down time soon.

What is the cunning plan then? My cherry cake turned out disastrous β€” not that we won't eat it anyway.

I'm always exhausted in these days. I can't even remember what not being exhausted feels like. A great part of it is emotional, of course, comes from all that worrying about Mum, but there's enough physical effort to wear me out, too.

I have dried cranberries, some chopped crystallised ginger and some pecans that need using up. So I am thinking of a simple fruit cake.

All cakes taste good, even if they don't turn out as planned!
