Lacking the Easter spirit

It is Holy Week, and it doesn't feel like it - at all! This is the first time in decades, literally, that I haven't baked a single biscuit for Easter! The fact makes me so frigging depressed it isn't even funny. It was always the most important part of the Easter preparations. Now all I have is old photos.

At least last year I had the Nutella bunnies and the coconut lambs, despite the dratted plague:



And the year before I had actual guests shortly before Easter. Guests!

This year I've got nothing. And that makes me angry and sad.

Thanks. One Corona-infected Easter was bad enough, but now that I can't even make the flat festive because I simply don't have the strength is too much.

I know exactly how you feel. Covid pretty much ruined all the holidays for me, I loved going over to my friends' houses and bringing them goodies and stuff. :(

Yup, it's going to be a pretty rubbish Easter. Is it too late to bake? Maybe some late Easter boxes to give some delayed Easter cheer, even if you have to leave them on the doorstep? How is mum? Is she better enough to give you a hand?

Theoretically, I could still bake something. But for that I'd need at least several undisturbed hours, and that just isn't possible when you're care-giving.

The kind of Easter program I'd like to see hasn't been on TV for a very long time. Also, not much relaxing is involved when you've got to take care of a partially immobilized person.

Oh no, baking is exclusively my area — my way to relax and to clear my mind. I'm just too bloody tired all the time right now to do all the small tasks that decorating biscuits require.

Oh, things are a great deal easier than they were just a month ago. But they're still exhausting enough, especially as I've still got this bone-deep exhaustion from the beginning. That and the mental burden of being worried all the time.

I think I can relate. This is the second Easter I won’t be spending with family. Easter was always my favourite holiday: the themes of rebirth, resurrection, renewal; the changing weather to my favourite seasons of autumn/winter; the Easter eggs; the joy of a family celebration without the stress of Christmas.

I know what you mean. Easter isn't as commercialized as Christmas is by far, so one can still feel some of the spiritual meaning of it.

Actually, I worked myself up so much during the night that I stood up in the morning and started baking. Granted, one sort of biscuits only: 30 pieces of one kind instead of the 30 sorts or so as usual, but I'll be damned if I allow Covid to eat my Easter completely!

Having to take care of an immobilized elderly person is a tough job, even if it is your own mother, this I know. There had been days when I was at the end of my strength, but there was always a light at the end of the tunnel to see, because mum always recovered in record time. But with Corona and no one allowed in plus caregiving I´d highly likely have thrown in the towel. The way you handle all this sh... is worth admiring. Sending positive vibes and hugs1
