They say that overconfidence comes before the fall... or something similar, I don't remember very well. In any case I was very proud not having any side effects after my first jab. Now, after the second one, I have a slightly reddened and itchy jab site and a somewhat swollen and tender upper arm. I've read the official statement and learned that these are fairly common side effects, and apparently, the majority gets them after the second jab. I'm still not happy about it, but considering I could have cold shivers and fever and headaches, I think I got away with the lesser evil. Or so I hope.

In other news I did the weekly laundry today (one day behind schedule because I was so bloody exhausted yesterday), wrote a bit and even did a bit of paper embroidery. I postponed making the non-beaded version of the beaded Easter egg because I didn't felt up to the challenge of create the new design and did a more religious motif instead.

Behold the cross with the swirls:

In case the colours don't come through true, the cross is stitched with a very pale golden/pink metallic thread and the swirls with a bright, light green. I've messed up the pattern in a few places - working with vectors isn't easy, and the thread often camouflages the actual hole you need to put the needle - but I like the outcome nonetheless.

Mum continues to progress, little baby step by little baby step, for which I am grateful. Our life has been very much the same before her accident, ever since the dratted virus invaded it - save for the fact that she needed less help with her daily routine, of course. But we have the time to deal with the slower speed.

Sorry about the jab woes.

The cross is very efective, simple yet elegant.

Also, yay for your mum's progress.

I am almost certain that I read somewhere that the stronger reaction to the second jab is because your body now recognises it as an invader — the first one has done its work. I hope this is true for you :)

The cross is very pretty.

I guess recovering at home might be less frustrating for your Mum in the current circumstances as she wouldn't be going out far anyway — a sort of tiny silver lining in a big cloud.

I've been rather enjoying the abstraction of these pieces, they look very modern, in a 1960's way!

I hope it is true as well because it's bloody annoying. *sigh*
At least it doesn't hinder me in doing my work around Mum and the household... it's just unpleasant.

I think I'll offer the newly stitched cards for the taking — I don't need a huge stock of them, after all. They won't arrive in time for Easter, most likely, but — according to Catholic liturgy — Easter period lasts 6 weeks, so if they arrive before Pentecost we're still within limits. ;)

Would you like the cross? Or some other card? I'll be making a few more, so if you're interested just say so. Even if they arrive late...

Always something you have to take under consideration. At least mine aren't too bad.

Thank you. :) For such an easy technique they are really pretty, aren't they? It's the cross where I came into sweating, actually.

Funny, for my clueless eye the look more complicated than the cross :D

IKR? When I was new to paper embroidery, I often fell into the trap of oh-so-easy-looking patterns that turned out a real pain in the backside.

I would love one of the crosses, thank you so much! It doesn't matter if it's too late for this Easter, it'll just be a few months early for next Easter!

Oh, you know, the part when you start from hole #1 and go to hole #18, then count back 17 holes and go back to hole #2. From then you go to hole #19 and so on... The pattern is always pretty, but a nightmare to work on it. If you miscount, you can start the whole thing from the beginning.

I wondered how those were sewn, whether the holes were pre-punched or made as you go. The process and result seem similar to wire art, both quite complicated, I would think. Lovely card, btw.

The holes were pre-punched. By me, using a template I've produced years ago. And now my fingers hurt. So many holes... *g*
