An unexpected meeting

When coming home from my obligatory food run, I unexpectedly run into a retired ex-colleague whom I haven't seen for at least a decade; and into her hubby. She used to be the deputy headmistress of our school and we got on rather well. She was the one to spot me - with all this winter wrapping and masks and whatnot I might not have recognized her. It was a fun encounter; always pleasant to meet old acquaintances and see that they are doing well.

I almost finished the penguin page today; only two snowflakes to sew (including the dratted velcro) and the eyes to fix. Then I will start with the little birds and their bird houses page, which will be a great deal more work, I'm afraid. I decided to make only two more pages: the one with the bird houses and the one with the bunny and its vegetable beds. Then there will be the back cover, which I intend to keep fairly simple, and I'll be done.

*fingers crossed to finish all this until June*

Other than that, I didn't do much today. We ate leftovers and I solved some crossword puzzles and read a bit of fanfic. I really need to get my lazy rear into gear and type up those 6 or so pages I wrote last week. I just don't seem to be able to bring up the energy. *sigh*

Bumping into an old friend surely is fun. Bad thing with me is that I'm very bad at recognizing people. I always tried to avoid shops where I might encounter my students' parents. So embarassing when you are not able to identify the ones who are enthusiastically shaking you by the hand!

She isn't actually a friend, just someone I had a good working relationship with before we both retired. But you are right, it was nice.

Well, the shaking you by the hand part is unlikely to happen in these days. But I still remember the day, 40 or so years ago, when I had a long, in-depth conversation with the mother of Kiddie A and firmly believing that she was the mother of Kiddie B. Fortunately, the two girls were friends, thick as thieves and all mischief was done in tandem, so the mother never knew that I mistook her for someone else, but I felt horribly embarrassed afterwards. *g*

Over the years, when I felt at a low point in my work, it was because of the feeling of not being valued. And when it's the boss doing it, oh, it's just the worst.
