... and quite literally, too.

I've left the house for the first time in a week today to make my usual food run. I explicitly waited until today, thinking that the hungry masses would besiege the grocery shops on Monday. Well... I was wrong.

I've never seen such a crowd in the Auchan supermarket before. Granted, the fact that the workers had their pallets all over the place, trying to fill up the shelves for the next wave of hungries in time didn't help things, but still. It was a Tuesday Morning, for Pete's sake, and a fairly late morning at that!

Needless to say that when I finally got home I was useless for the rest of the day. A good thing that we decided not to cook today, either; we've been eating the same potato cream soup and Christmas cookies for three days in a row. Nothing wrong with that, it's a good soup (we still have some of it left for tomorrow), and I've baked enough different sorts of cookies to have some variety in our diet, but I'll be glad to finally have a cooked meal tomorrow. Even if it will only be a pair of sausages and a salad!

Other than that, I had nice, long phone chats with my friends Erna and Eenie and even managed to write a page or so for the next chapter of "Timescapes". That was a delight... I haven't written a thing for at least a week or even longer. Then I uploaded the next chapter of "Elvenhome" to AO3 - with one chapter a day I'll be finished with the story in the first third of January - and there'll be TV-time, soon. The GBBO re-runs for the win!

Ugh, the shopping sounds unnerving. It was like that all the time when I was in the UK in October, it really freaked me out after the relative calm of Norway. Most unpleasant. I hope everyone was wearing masks!

We still haven't been shopping for groceries, but really need to tomorrow.
Not sure I'll join my mum, we had a bit of an argument about it.

What a shame about the crowds - I did the same thing, waiting until this morning, and was surprised at just how quiet it was - here I think everyone did go yesterday!

They did - save for one or two incorrigible idiots even the right way. Still, I was this close to panicking because of the crowd. One really gets used to half-empty shops.

We'll have to go to Lidl tomorrow still, as I didn't get any acceptable fruits at the Auchan supermarket. Besides, I doubt I could have carried even more. Perhaps Mum will feel up to coming with me, as Lidl is right at the next corner.
We had a bit of argument around Christmas Eve, too, but it had settled in the meantime.

That was what I had hoped for - unfortunately, half the district seemed to have the same idea. *sigh*

I had to go to three different grocery stores and I still couldn't get rice. I absolutely loathe grocery shopping on an empty stomach so right now I'm taking a break and cooking lunch, then I'll go back out and go to some other grocery stores. (Rice? They didn't have rice???)

No rice? That sounds ridiculous indeed. Good luck with the continued hunt!

The shops are a nightmare right now. At least people are wearing masks and maintaining distance. I would like to buy some fruit, but am too tired from Christmas. I’ll venture out in a day or two.

That stinks. I hate having to navigate around pallets.

I have been putting off the shopping run for a couple of days now. I finally conceded that there was actually nothing I needed that couldn't wait until January.

Don't forget that New Year's Eve is approaching, too, so the madness will increase by then!

So do I, but the poor slaves need to fill up the shelves somehow.

We've run out of just about everything that we need on the daily basis, since I didn't go to the shops for a week, so it was now or never.

I braved monster crowds grocery shopping on the days close to Christmas and New Years. Even though most everyone was masked, one of the stores is tiny with not much space in the aisles. That was a true nightmare. Glad you were able to do a bit of writing and that you have many friends to chat or text with, even though you don't get to see them as often in person.
