Let's start with the good part, shall we? I've tried my first new recipe: Banana cookies. Made with chopped walnuts and dark chocolate. They look a but ugly but are delicious. This time the ugliness isn't my fault - they're just the kind of cookies that don't look pretty. *g*

On the other hand, my new Christmas cards are very pretty, if I say so myself:

And now on to the bad news: all adults in Little Emma's family have Covid. They haven't been tested, but they can't smell or taste anything, have fever and are coughing. The doctor told them - on the phone - that it is Covid and they should stay put and wait until it goes away. Small wonder the death rate is steadily rising in this poor country. *sigh*

The death rate is rising in Sweden also but still below that in the spring. Each death is sad in my opinion.

Over here, it is worse than it was in the spring. Much worse. :(

That is my hope as well. The most annoying part is that it could have been avoided. But they went to some sort of family birthday (her father's family), and the people were idiots, not keeping distance and going all bussy-bussy and stuff. I find it criminally irresponsible, since Emma's grandmother has a serious heart condition and is therefore more endangered than the rest of them.

It makes me sad to hear that, if we do all we can to stay safe and the vaccines come quickly we might be in the clear soon.

Yikes! That is definitely very irresponsible. Poor grandmother, that is very worrying for her. Is she already infected as well? People all seem to have this attitude that Covid is a thing which only happens to the people you hear about in the news and you can't catch it, no matter how careless you are.

These cookies look yummy! They're not ugly, they're rustic! (that was what my grandma said every time she made something not that good looking but tasting good lol)

Yes, she is infected. She is only a year older than I am, but her heart condition makes her endangered.

I hope they're able to cope and get through this quickly. Is help available if the grandmother needs it? Do the hospitals still have enough room?

NY is still OK, but we have a lot of places where infection rates are worse than they were in the spring, and it's scary.

I like those cards! I'm pretty sure I'd like the cookies too :)

The grandmother is still relatively young (65) and she lives together with Emma, her parents and her brother, so they can help out each other if needs must be.

I'm glad you like the cards and the cookies. We all need something pretty to look at in these ugly times.

Thank you. I'm sorry to hear about your sister and your friends, too. I somehow missed that post - spent too much time over at [livejournal.com profile] picowrimo, it seems.

And yeah, the cookies do taste wonderful. They're also quite soft, which is great for Mum, seeing that she barely has any teeth left. She was thinking about getting a teeth prothesis, but then this whole plague broke out...

I know what you mean. I'm quietly panicking every time Mum leaves the house, even if it's only to the supermarket next corner. But she needs to get out from time to time, and we are careful to chose the time slot when there are not many people. Being retired makes it easier.

If Emma's parents had been more careful (not to mention considerate) the whole thing could have been avoided. I mean, her mother is at home with them kids, her father works from the home office most of the time, so if they refused to go to the dratted birthday party, they'd be safe now. It makes me so angry!

They are getting better, thank God. H. said that her sense of taste is gradually returning, which is very helpful, considering that she's the one who cooks for the entire family. ;))
