... is that I didn't really do much today.

I watched my zoo reports in the morning, although I was a bit disappointed by the total lack of elephants. And baby gorillas. There were some orang-utans, which made up for it a bit, but not enough.

Then I continued cutting out small parts for future cards. I've got a small collection by now, but it is really tedious to do all this work by hand. Another unpleasant side effect of the current situation is that I can't roam the craft shops at my heart's desire to hunt down the right motif punchers. I've got about a dozen of them already, but there's still that one (or five) that I would need right now and do not have. Yes, I know there are bigger tragedies in life; it's just a small yet persistent annoyance.

My friend Alex called me in the afternoon, which was the best part of the day. I'm starving for human contact; being an extrovert, I miss people terribly.

Other than that, we're still fine, thank God. Mum cooked a simple potato dish with hard-boiled eggs and creme freche today, and we still had some leftovers from yesterday. So she decided that cleaning half the flat would be the needful thing to do and insisted on doing it herself. I was only allowed to do the lifting and the shaking out of the rugs. I think cabin fever is getting to her, too.

There are just too many things I'd like to try and too little time to try them all. *g*

One of the zoos they show in these programmes is the Wilhelma in Stuttgart (Germany). They have a gorilla kindergarten, where baby gorillas not only from their own zoo but from everywhere are raised - such babies that have difficulties because their mothers don't accept them or they are mobbed or very ill or whatnot. They are kept there to a certain age, and then either go back to where they came from or go to other zoos.

In the other series, filmed in the zoo Hellabrunn in Munich, they showed the birth of baby elephants and how they got integrated into the herd and all that. It was very interesting, although sad because one of the babies died from a heart failure while barely half a year old or so.

I find orang-utans hysterically funny. I know that they are highly intelligent primates, but they look like totally sloshed tramps - if primates had tramps, that is. *g*

I must shamefully admit that I've given up on reading purely for recreation for quite some time. Well, reading books, that is. I do read an ungodly amount of fanfic, and then there's research, of course. Oh, glorious research! It's a shame that I can incorporate so little of the results in the actual story - my readers, such as they are, would be bored to death. I'm a trivia addict, myself.

The first thing on my to-do list once this thrice-damned virus is cleared out is to visit the zoo in my home town. I've been planning to go and see the koalas for years, but first there was the ungodly work schedule, then Mum decided that we need to have the flat renovated - neither of which left much energy for anything else - and then Covid came to fuck up our lives... I hope there still will be koalas by the time I get around to go there.

I used to work at a zoo and I got to pet a koala once. their fur is so soft and they smell like Ricolas because of the eucalyptus.

That could be a new cure for the common cold: sniff a koala! I bet the kiddies would love it!

Well, I'm hoping the cleaning got your mother out of your hair for a little bit... maybe! :D

I'm pretty introvert but I was going crazy in spring so I feel for you. I'm thankful for hurh and my cleaning lady.

I'm glad you are doing well and staying safe. It's been hard on everyone, especially extroverts.

We don't really have the space to get out of each other's hair - but we manage. ;)

I know I'm lucky that I have at least Mum with me, but sometimes it would be nice to see other people, too.
And no, the unwashed crowd at the grocer's doesn't count.

It isn't so that I'd have had much of a social life before, but at least there was choir practice where I did something I like (singing) and met similar-minded people three times a week...

The Houston Zoo had a gorilla nursery. The babies were always so cute, I miss that here. I also love elephants and any show about them.

I was watching the episodes I missed on YouTube, but the stupid comments put me out of my enjoyment completely, so I'll pass in the near future.
