We had the proverbial flood of biblical properties here in the last two days, and forecast says it isn't over yet. Last night I didn't realize that the water has come in through new, previously undetected ways, and by the morning the rug on the balcony was completely soaked. Granted, it's just a leftover piece from the wall-to-wall carpet we have in the living room, but still, had I spotted the additional leaking, I could have rolled it up and spare myself the rug drying routine.

The cardboard box we had to keep for the new telly, should there be some problem with it (you can only take it back in the original box), was also soaked through to one-third, taking the water from the carpet. Mum said she'll check if the telly is still within the take-back guarantee time and if not, I'll cut up the box, keep the dry parts for craft purposes and throw out the rest.

There are large wet patches on the balcony's side walls, like some bizarre landmaps. The electric heater was running all morning to dry up them (and the wooden covering on the front wall) at least a bit before the next bout of the biblical flood hits us. I don't even dare to thing of the next electricity bill; the heater is a prehistoric piece of equipment that was made before they came out with the energy saving versions. *sigh*

Other than the balcony salvaging work, I cooked today: pea vegetables with some sort of Rösti, that is grated potatoes mixed with cubed ham, an egg and some flour, fried in oil. I also baked an apple jelly cake and from the leftover dough I made these:

They are called "Spitzbuben", for reasons unknown to me. Basically three pieces of the same biscuit glued together with red currant jam, a bit of chocolate icing on top and hacked hazelnuts. Since I was a lazy git and used ready-made dough (never again if I can help it), they lost their perfectly round shape while baking. The hazelnuts were in the muesli, originally, but since Mum cannot eat them (that would require actual teeth!), I fish them out and use them for baking.

I also made two more tiny sea creatures (a seashell and a turtle) while collapsing in front of the telly, so it was a very busy day.
