Which means I spent the better part of the day in the kitchen.

Firstly, I baked the two sponge cakes for my birthday cake - a day too early because I forgot that October 9th is on Friday, not tomorrow. Ah, well, what's done is done. I wrapped the things in tinfoil to prevent them from drying out. Tomorrow I'll cut them into concentric circles and put together so that they'll give a checkboard pattern in the inside. Or so I hope. I've never done that before. If it goes pear-shaped I'll blame Mary Berry. She made it look so easy.

Speaking of which, I gave her chicken pasta bake a try, and it turned out very yummy:

I also blanched the oversized cauliflower I bought yesterday and forgot about completely. It will make two meals somewhen in the future. Mum and I both like cauliflower, but it's so insanely expensive this year that we must make small portions. I think something must have gone wrong with the growing, as these have been imported from Poland.

Afterwards I managed to write half a page for the upcoming chapter of SD5. More than nothing, so I'm not complaining, especially after a day like this. I had a small scare as my iPad mini didn't want to connect to the internet a short time ago; fortunately it seems to have been a temporary glitch. *fingers crossed*

In other news, it's been raining for hours. No balcony leakage so far, but you can never know. *sigh/

The pasta bake looks good ... though I think I'd leave the tomatoes off.

The chicken looks tasty! Have you ever tried roasting a whole cauliflower in the oven? It takes about an hour, but it is so good!

I hope we get pics of the finished cake :)

It is a Friday. I just can't count...

And apparently, I can't think, either, as I've written the exact opposite that I intended, re: my birthday date.

I'll see what I can do - assuming my iPad mini will behave. *fingers crossed*

I never heard of the roast cauliflower thingy. Hmm, to late for that now, but perhaps another time.

Do you get heartburn from cooked tomatoes?

Thank you, but we aren't quite there yet. The big virtual birthday party will take place on October 9 - I hope you'll drop by.

It's good to hear from you; the phone in which your number was saved broke a month or so ago and I was wondering how to contact you again.

Mary Berry's recipes are usually good.

Oddly I was just reminded (by FB) about an hour ago, of the cake I made for S2C's birthday 2 years ago here - using the circles to make a chequerboard cake! And that reminded me that I did a pink one for D-d on one occasion too - I've just found the pictures for that - under construction, and the inside when finished.

That as well but I also don't like cooked tomatoes very much.
Only as tomato sauce ...

Oh, I know how it is supposed to go. I'm just not sure I will get it right. Seeing that I have problems with cutting things in a straight line and all... ;)

Veggies are more expensive here, too. In the UK I think it's partly due to the fact that we use a lot of EU migrant workers for the harvesting, and they've not been able to get here.

To be honest I was surprised the first one worked :) It is very satisfying when it does, though.

Well, I've put it together all right. Whether it actually worked we'll only know when we cut it tomorrow. I'll post a pic to the birthday entry in any case.

Yeah, I just saw a report on German TV that said the rich have got even richer due to the Covid crisis. They didn't say anything about the greater half of mankind, but we can guess for ourselves, eh?
