Today, I finally got around to give Paul Hollywood's sun-dried tomato and poppy seed biscuits a try. I needed to hunt down certain ingredients first, and that was neither easy nor cheap. Now that I had everything together, I dared the attempt.

It was an absolute disaster. I followed the recipe fairly closely (save for the fact that I used margarine instead of butter, as always), but the dough refused to cooperate when I tried to put it together to begin with. Instead of a smooth dough I got something that looked like a pineapple and had the consistency of hard rubber. Rolling it out was an act of heroic strength. Cutting out the circles was near impossible. Instead of the promised less than 30 minutes of work I wrestled with the dratted thing for at least two hours. Longer, if the prescribed chilling time counts.

And when they were finally baked, they were still tough like rubber and had hardly any flavour at all. At least the poppy seed ones had none. The others tasted faintly of tomato and cheese, but very, very faintly. I solemnly swore never to bake anything like this ever again.

In non-culinary news, I've finished the tail of the little mermaid today (sewing on all those paillettes was not the fun people think it is), planned out the rest of the sea page and talked to two friends on the phone. Oh, and we survived the visit of the chiropodist!
