You've just made my life more complicated.

I've begun planning out Little Emma's (who's no longer a baby) quiet book that is done next summer, when she'll turn two. Where does one look for quiet book ideas? Bingo! On YouTube, of course. Where you can find literally hundreds of quiet books, tutorials, quiet book page tutorials, and so on. You pick the ones you like, save them to your playlist and can re-watch any time you need them. Right?

Wrong!

YouTube has just decided that they need to protect young children - which is okay. For that reason, however, they not only disabled comments to every frigging video that the owner labelled as "For children", it is now also impossible to save them to your playlists. The function is simply disabled.

I assume the goal is that sick fucks won't be able to save videos that actually feature kids, and I'm in absolute agreement with that. Unfortunately, many of those quiet books and tutorials are also labelled as "For kids", perhaps because quiet books are made for kids, as a rule, and now I have to save the links to my HD and pick out every video separately, without remembering what the heck that particular link was of. *sigh*

The other fantastic YouTube "reform" is that they no longer mail you alerts when a channel you're subscribed to is updated. This started what? Two weeks ago? At least they don't mail the alerts me! So I have to check each day on the YouTube site if, say, Angel has put up a new Spanish recipe or Sviatlana Balybina another quiet book. *grrrrr*

On a more positive note, I've finished Chapter 4 of "A Stitch of Time" and am very pleased with the outcome. Which means the readers probably won't, but I'm getting used to that. I've just realized that I forgot to post Chapters 2 and 3 to [livejournal.com profile] otherworlds_lib, so that's what I'll do tomorrow. That's the plan anyway.

Oh, and our choir conductor called me on the phone today. It was a really nice chat, even though the topics we discussed weren't exactly encouraging. Still, it's good to interact with friends, even if only through the phone.

My apologies for the relative lack of commenting lately. It seems I can only bring up the energy for one sort of thing at a time. I promise to better my ways.

Sorry, you are having a hassle on Youtube. I thought the labelling was simply to avoid children seeing adult content. I fear I'm not good at commenting either at present.

I really don't understand the (fail of) logic behind it. *sigh*

That sucks about YouTube. I had not realized the change, but then I guess all my subs are adult, not child related. I was still getting notified of channel updates as of last week, perhaps, that is just a glitch ??

I hate it when websites change things, it's usually not for the better!

And yet they're doing it all the time!

Yes! I was wondering about not getting any alerts. Why subscribe to a channel if you're not going to get an alert?

The first time I posted a video I thought, at first, it meant was the video suitable for children, and said yes - then realised, when it then produced a whole series of other hoops to jump through, that that wasn't quite what it meant and went back and changed the 'yes' to a 'no'.

To be honest, I'm surprised the people posting the craft videos didn't do the same thing. I wonder if they have been notified to let them know people can no longer comment or save their videos?

I am pretty annoyed at the lack of notifications, too. I follow several sewing type blogs and have to keep checking for new entries.

I seriously doubt it. Most sites seem to be less and less user-friendly - as if they didn't exist because of the users in the first place!

Yeah, same here. I don't know why they do it. Or, if there's a problem, why don't they put up a note or whatnot.
