Torchwoodgate - first crew suggestions
I really, really shouldn't spend my nonexistent time with brand new plotbunnies, especially not while I'm just a short paragraphs from bringing the curent story arc of 'Atlantis Café' to closure, but here you are. I just couldn't resist.
This isn't the whole expedition, of course - not nearly 150 members yet. So, suggestions are welcome.
Expedition leader: Đr. Elizabeth Shaw, an ex-companion of the Third Doctor, now in her early sixties (I've made her slightly younger than the actress who played her).
Administrative staff:
- Ianto Jones, the one and only
- Corporal Carol Bell, a middle-aged, female UNIT soldier
Science staff:
- Professor Malcolm Taylor, one of UNIT's foremost scientific advisors. A Welshman, and apparently quite eccentric. I'm not sure, but he might be an astrophysicist, just like McKay
- Dr. Toshiko Sato - computer sciences, electrical engineering and whatnot
- Dr. Miko Kusanagi - computer sciences
- Dr. Peter Grodin - engineering and computer sciences
- Dr. Radek Zelenka - engineering + astrophysics
- Dr. Svetlana Markova - engineering + astrophysics (she's the Russian scientist from the 4th Season SG-1 ep "Watergate", who's supposedly Carter's equal)
- Dr. Annette Dumais - engineering, the French scientist died in "Hot Zone"
- Dr. Katja Schmidt - enigneering, the nameless German assistant of Radek
- Dr. Richard Wagner - engineering, another scientist died in "Hot Zone" - I made him Austrian, just for fun.
- Captain Marion Price, a senior technical officer of UNIT, according to her insignia a member of the Royal Engineers and apparently one tough woman.
- Dr. McNab (played by Primeval's James Murray) and Dr. Moore (played by his real life wife, Sarah Parrish), two oceanologists mentioned in "Grace Under Pressure" but never actually seen), whom I made a married couple, just for fun. I decided that they came from Scotland.
- Dr Bryce (played by Nimet Kanji), another oceanologist, of Indian origins
- Dr. Eric Corrigan, SGA's only anthropologist that we've seen; I decided to make him British, just because I like him and wanted him on board.
- Dr. Nichols - a climatologist who's canonically British
Medical personnel:
Chief Medical Officer, chief surgeon and head geneticist: Dr. Carson Beckett.
Exobiologist and medical researcher: Dr. Martha Jones.
Exobiologist and head pathologist: Dr. Owen Harper
Drs Nguyen and Cole mentioned on SGA; the later is prome to migraines.
Technicians:
- Sally Jacobs a UNIT technician who survived the Sycorax invasion.
- Sgt Charles Lenoir, aka Chuck, who's canonically Canadian, so I kept him.
- Technician Eddie Wong, the nameless Gate tech from SGA Season 1 - I think he was American, but that will be changed here. Besides, I liked him. He was played by Edmond Wong, hence the name.
-Sgt Jenny Hagiwara, one of the unnamed Gate room personnel, named after a fellow fanfic author. She's Japanese in this AU.
- Corporal Maisie Hawke, a middle-aged UNIT soldier who used to be a radio operator in 1972 ("Day of the Daleks", a 3rd Doctor story)
Military staff:
Military commander of the expedition: Captain Jack Harkness. Now, I know it's a bit extragavant, but they need someone extraordinary as the chief honcho. Besides, he can't be killed for the duration, right? Plus the fact that the Wraith would just *love* to get their paws on him would serve for excellent drama.
Team leaders:
- Captain Erisa Magambo; she'd be also Jack's second-in-command and the person supposed to keep Jack under some semblance of control.
- Sergeant Major John Benton. Since he'd be in his seventies, I've decided that when he was returned into an adult, he returned twenty years younger, so that I could have him on Atlantis.
- Lt. Tolineva, a tough, competent, no-nonsense female officer from SGC's Russian SG-team.
Technical and weapons specialists:
- Suzie Costello - originally, I wanted to put Suzie among the scientists, but I think this would fit her better.
- Mickey Smith - I put Mickey into this category for the time being, but I intend to move him into a more fitting position... as soon as I can think of one.
Other soldiers:
- Privates Steve Grey and Harris, who were canonically killed by the Sontarans, but I decided that they weren't, actually.
- Sgt Zbrigniew - a Polish soldier seconded to the UK branch of UNIT.
Civilian security:
- Det. Kathy Swanson is chief of security, accompanied by PCs Andy Davidson and Gwen Cooper - mostly because these two already know so much about aliens that should have been Retconned back into their diapers if not included into the expedition.
So, this is the rough draft. Additions, suggestions, comments are welcome. Nothing is set in stone yet - well, very little, in any case. I'd love to discuss every possible affect of such a far-fetched AU.

- Timeframe?
- Should I dare to make Markova the head scientist of Atlantis?
- Who'd insist that Gwen be part of the expedition, despite the fact that she's annoying and completely useless? Higher Powers - but who and why?

Can't say anything about the timeframe, I have no idea.
Since there are many people from English-speaking countries (no wonder, with Britain in charge), I think it'd be a good idea to make Markova head scientist, although I would really love to see a science department under Tosh. But that might become too UNIT/TW-heavy. The other nations want some time in the limelight, too, after all. And I don't think Tosh would enjoy the hassle of having to spend half her time soothing egos of squabbling scientists, fighting against the prejudice of the soldiers and so on, which comes with the job of science head.
Well, Gwen was already been part of TW at this point I guess, since you said she'd have to be retconned into oblivion otherwise. So it could be a matter of UNIT, the Queen or even Jack not wanting her left in charge of TW Cardiff as the only remaining member. Or Britain doesn't have many people with the ATA gene, so they don't want to leave her behind, not wanting to give too much power to other nations. Or it could just be a bureaucratic thing, someone way up figuring she has to be brilliant to be recruited by Jack, so they want her for Atlantis.

Latest AU twists:
- Rodney - pardon, Meredith McKay isn't a scientist; he's fulfilled his dream and became a name-worthy concert pianist (see SG-1 episode).
- His sister, Jeannie, OTOH, hasn't married at all; she is the one who pursued a scientific career and is now working for Area 51.
- Through her, Sam Carter has met Rodney (erm, Meredith), they fall in love, despite everything, and are about to marry, so Carter doesn't really mind not being sent to Atlantis as the head of sciences.
- I also decided that waking up the Wraith would be Gwen's doing. Not by killing the female Wraith from the episode - she wouldn't hit a barn door if her life depended on it, after all - but getting captured, as she always does in TW, and forcing Jack to go after her and free her. So, since Jack stands in for Sheppard, he will wake the Wraith, technically, but it will all be Gwen's fault, hehehe!

I also decided that Tosh would have met Miko in the past, and that Owen has heard of Carson Beckett, who's a nameworthy geneticist, after all.
Oh, and I hope you've realized that this time I'll keep Suzie. ;)

Ianto takes it in stride, of course. Tosh says that if she wouldn't accept, UNIT would just put her back to prison and let her rot and is very upset that she might never see her mother again. OTOH, she's looking forward to work with such great scientists. Owen scowls a lot, but when he learns that he's gonna work with Carson Beckett, he's delighted... well, as much as he is capable of. And to Suzie, Jack says that he wants her to see the good stuff, too, the beautiful things she always hoped would be out there - and she promoptly starts crying.
Of course, considering that Suzie has killed him in the pilot - and, in this AU, Jack has shot her to subdue her - will not make their working relationship that simple. But I assumed that they managed to work together in Season 1, perhaps even early Season 2, so...

Atlantis Café 18/1
Right now, I'm busily typing up the next chapter of "Atlantis Café" - I think you'll just love the other alternate TW characters who're making a guest appearance in it.
Edit: New chapter's up. Have fun! ;)

Thanks for the suggestion, BTW. My main problem is, I've barely seen a handful of Dr. Who episodes (only the ones with Jack Harkness, courtesy of a Dutch lady friend of mine), so I'm navigating by Wikipedia alone.
The above crew manifest has already been changed in a few places - to be honest, I'm more comfortable with using characters I actually know. I'll correct it or post a new manifest, soon.
