More Red Dwarf

Well, [livejournal.com profile] the_wild_iris has just sent me Series IV and V, as part of the spoilage programme. *hugs [livejournal.com profile] the_wild_iris*

Spoilers and bouts post-pubescent shallowness behind the tag. You've been warned! ;))

Hopeless and utter smeghead as I am, I managed to watch Series V first, of course. Yeah, I really need to do something about my numbers and how to recognize them. *g* Anyway; Season V was absolutely hilarious, as usual. And my goodness, I never thought Rimmer would be so hawttt shirtless and all tied up and freshly oiled for torture by scantily clad, hallucinatory blondes. Erm... *stomps down not-sp-fleeting moment of shallowness ruthlessly*

Salty, shirtless Rimmer aside, "Holoship" was a very funny episode, with all the arrogant, crazy holograms - the ship itself was beautiful, too - especially the one who came to check out the Dwarf, and Lister's sarcasm duel with him. And I've grown to really, really like Kryten. Mechanoid humour is a thing of beauty.

And while I still miss some of the more trashy parts of seasons 1 and 2 (mostly the sets and the costumes), and I liked the Cat's neon-coloured suits better, he still gets the best lines of all. Like in "The Inquisitor", whe he's asked what makes his life worthwile, he escapes termination by telling the Inquisitor that he brings happiness to the world because he has such a beautiful ass. *g*

In any case, I think my favourite from Series IV is "Holoship" - although "Back to Reality" is in the running up category.

You're welcome, m'dear x

In any case, I think my favourite from Series IV is "Holoship" - although "Back to Reality" is in the running up category.

Same here. 'Back to Reality' was voted the best ever episode in a poll of viewers, but while I agree it's a superb episode, I prefer 'Holoship'. It's one of the best at showing Rimmer as a complex, sad character - and heroic too. And I love the scene you mentioned, between Lister and the officer. 'Unnecessarily ugly' is my favourite insult ever!

Yeah, Season 5 does a lot to humanize Rimmer, doesn't it? And boy, does he offer us a few prime examples of very nice chest pr0n! Okay, I admit I'm shallow, but I never thought he'd look so good without those silly costumes...

I've only seen a few episodes here and there, but it really is quite funny. I remember one about looking for vindaloo curry and ending up in the middle of some battle.

The whole thing is hilariously funny. Although I still don't have the faintest idea what a vindaloo curry is. I mean, I know what curry is, of course (and I hate it, even the smell of it makes my stomach turn upside down), but what the heck is a vindaloo?

Welcome back to cyberlife, BTW! You've been missed. *hugs*
