Crafty Saturday

I've finally finished A's Advent-themed desk decoration piece. Well, almost. I still have 20 matchboxes to disguise as Christmas gift packages, but the main structure is done.

Current state:



It turned out very much how I imagined it (with the exception of the pine trees that are rather miserable, but they'll have to do), and I even managed to work with the glue gun without injuring myself!

In the afternoon I finished one of the XL-sized Christmas Elves. I'm less than happy with it. The details are gorgeous, if I say so myself, but when put together, it makes a rather clumsy impression. Mum says I should have made an oval face instead a round one, it would look better that way. So I'm going to cut the face of the other one narrower and hope for the best. Pics later, when Elf #2 is finished.

I also made good progress writing-wise. Half of the chapter is translated. I'm really glad I've managed this much, as next week promises to be rather busy... again.

There isn't much I can do, unfortunately, save for cutting the face a bit narrower. But I'll do what I can.

Careful with the glue gun! Those things are treacherous. And good luck with the remaining twenty matchboxes. What a cool idea for an Advent calendar theme.

Thanks. I'm seriously thinking of taking off XL Elf #1's head and reattach it after some cosmetic corrections. I've worked so hard on the dratted piece, I'd hate to gave it away less than perfect.

What a nifty decoration piece! And hurray for not injuring yourself with the glue gun. I got to use one for the first time at Kiscon as part of an arts-and-crafts activity and kept forgetting how darned hot the glue would be and how effectively that heat would seep through the sock! (We were decorating socks to make sock puppets.) I almost burned myself a few times. Ouch!

I'm sorry the XL elves aren't working out as you hoped--or at least, not yet. Hope your mom's suggestion makes them look the way you want them to. I look forward to seeing them!
