On crap telly, Pinterest stupidity and other amusing things

I've been watching "Forged in Fire" on the History Channel lately. I'm not terribly impressed by the channel, TBH - all that Pawn Stars and Storage Wars and Ancient Aliens idiocy really isn't worth wasting one's time on it, and don't even let me start about Knight Fight or Knife or Death... but I digress.

Forged in Fire, OTOH, is very useful. Firstly, I can pick up some smithing vocabulary - or I could, if only they left the explanations a bit longer onscreen - which is very practical if one writes Dwarves. Secondly, there are some really bizarre characters among the participants - which is also very practical if one writes Dwarves. I've found a few great templates on whom to build my Dwarf characters, so it's a double-win situation, writing-wise. Of course, they just have to show the program five minutes before midnight, but that can't be helped.

As for Pinterest - I know the whole things probably works automatically, but when they send a mail with "We think you might like these pins" I sometimes get my own pins. It is hilarious to be suggested one's own handiwork. In the last post no less than three of my own explosion boxes were included. *g*

On other news, the baby journal is almost done. Two more pages, then the cover, and that's it. (Photos later.) Perhaps one day Pinterest will recommend it to me, too.

That's all right - I am fan of my work, too, so that makes at least two of us. Too bad one can't post stories to Pinterest, perhaps I'd get a few recommendations from them for my writing as well.

That's true. I have yet to find anything on History Channel that has anything to do with actual history, you know.

Haha, I find that funny. I have mixed feelings about Pinterest. While it is a nice repository for interests and creative works, and I love looking at others' pins, it is annoying to have Pinterest info pop up on a search as there is usually no original source for what is listed. In that sense, I hate it.

Re: Forged in Fire, I've seen the advertisements for it but have yet to watch it. Perhaps, I will give it a try. As to the other shows you mention, yeah, that is why I rarely watch American cable channels, they have too many idiotic, senseless programs.

Congrats on the almost finished baby journal, can't wait to see the final pictures.

Soon, I promise. I've finished the very last double page today; now I have to roll up my sleeves and make the cover. I'm always nervous when I have to sew in the pages, the paper tears so easily, so you have to be very careful. And my sausage fingers aren't very helpful by such delicate work.

I can recommend "Forged in Fire". It is hilariously funny and also educational.

BTW, your lovely letter has arrived on Monday. I learned more about you from it than in the last decade and a half since we've known each other - I enjoyed every word! When my brain is a bit more functional, I'll answer you privately and in detail, I just wanted to thank you. *hugs*

It doesn't really matter when it arrived! It's such a rare thing to get a real letter in these days, I'll keep and cherish yours for a long time.
