A very domestic day

This was the first day since my retirement that I actually didn't have to do anything for others in general or the school in particular. So I used the chance to do some things I've planned for a long time but never got around to do.

Firstly, I've finally cleaned the dratted hover that was waiting for its turn on the balcony for more than two weeks. Then I started sorting out the stuff I brought home from school and got rid of two big paper bags of... well, basically rubbish. And I went through some of my notes, trying to decide which unfinished story should I pick up next.

And finally, I found the time and the determination to scan in my Christmas cookie recipes from the Austrian journal Kochen & Küche - and the Hungarian version of it. The results - a total of 29 recipes - can be seen in the according section of my Pinterest board:

I also sent invitations to people who might be interested in sharing recipes. So, [livejournal.com profile] meathiel and [livejournal.com profile] spikesgirl58, watch your inboxes. Anyone else who'd like to collaborate and is already on Pinterest, PM me and I'll invite you in.

Won't be online much longer, as SAT1 is about to show their Christmas special of the German version of The Great British Bake Off, which I very much intend to watch.

You've been very productive! I'm looking forward to browsing the recipes. Still haven't gotten around to baking, either Christmas or otherwise, but I'm hoping next week over the holidays. Either way, I'll enjoy browsing the recipes for later occasions at the very least.

It's always practical to have some in reserve. :)
I encourage you to add some if you can - the more the merrier, right? ;D

Indeed! I still have to look through my recipe folder for something to share, though I have shared most of my favs already with you over the years.

That you did - but without pictures! ;)

Hah, yeah! Alas, I don't think most of my fav recipes have pictures since they're either from Mom's old baking book (from the age when recipe books were all black&white text) or internet printouts. But I'll look for some with pictures

Actually, my tablet comes with monthly changing free electronic magazines and sometimes these are baking or cooking magazines. I've started collecting some nice recipes this way. Most of them are way too complicated for my use or I can't get the ingredients in my town but eh, sometimes they have nice stuff.

ETA: OH! That works out really nicely, actually. I can't print these electronic magazines directly, I have to take screenshots of the page and then print out the screenshot. But I can just upload the screenshot to pinterest, no need to print out first.

Great! I'm looking forward to them. Not getting the right ingredients supports creativity - you start the process with thinking about what can you those things replace with. Like orange-pecan shortbread without actual pecans, you know. *g*

That's true! Unfortunately in cooking international dishes it can be a real pain for me, when I'm not familiar enough with the ingredients I should be having to know how to best replace them.

Oh! You like ginger, right? Because I found a nice recipe for arroz caldo, Filipino chicken soup with loads of ginger, which does have all the ingredients readily available. I keep meaning to make it when I find the time, it's said to be excellent flu season food.

I will! Thanks! It sounds like you dug in and took names. I'm glad you were able to get to some things. I so need to do that.

Oh, I've still miles to go before I sleep, but every small step is a victory!

That's the right frame of mind!

Just a pity the Demel cookies are only in Hungarian!

I'll translate it for you as soon as I get a moment. German would be okay? ;))

Sounds like you had a nice relaxing (super busy and productive) day. I watched the Great British Bake Off last night - love that show! Nice to see you are enjoying retirement.

Haha, I do indeed! I've waited for this seven years longer than originally expected, so I'm determined to make the most of it. I have a lot of time to make up for!
