Habe heute abend anderthalb Kilo Spargel geschält. 58 Stück, wenn ihr das unbedingt wissen mußt. War eine Heidenarbeit, aber es meint wir werden dreimal hintereinander Spargel essen. Yum!

James Cameron's Avatar finally came out on DVD. I haven't seen it in the cinema, so I bought it and watched it tonight. I was surprised how much I liked it, despite the sometimes glaringly obvious CGI-background. Loved the alien fauna and flora, even though CGI characters still don't move convincinly. Considering that this film took place on a low-gravity mond, however, it wasn't so off-putting as in, say, "Beowulf".

The plot was woefully predictable, though. Noble savages, greedy corporations, bloodthirsty soliders, unlikely love affair... oh, god, been there, done that, still falling asleep from it. Still, the basic idea of the avatars was good, and I enjoyed the sci-fi parts of it before it turned into all that mystical mumbo-jumbo.

All in all, my money was well-invested.

I haven't seen Avatar yet, mostly because I really, really dislike the trope of the *Noble White Man Rescuing The Poor Savages*...XD!

Spargel Saison is the best! I'm planning on something with ham and cheese sauce.

As I said, the plot of "Avatar" is utterly forgettable. Cameron himself admits that it has more to do with science fantasy than with actual science fiction. But the settings are pretty (even though the CGI is way too visible at times), and the aliens are interesting.

Viel Spaß beim Spargelessen! Wir werden dieses Wochenende wohl noch was eingefrorenen Spargel vom letzten Jahr essen, müssen endlich Platz im Kühlschrank kriegen.

Ich verarbeitete den letzten Rest von Tiefkühlspargeln zur Spargelsuppe heute. Ich nahm das Kochwasser von gestern abend, gab zwei Gemüse-Brühwürfel dazu und dickte das Ganze mit Speisestärke etwas ein. Dann die Spargeln und etwas gehackte Petersilie dazu - es war köstlich.

Am Abend gab es dann eine alternative Version von Spargeln nach polnischer Art... auch sehr lecker!

Wir haben heute Abend Kartoffelpuffer gemacht

Oh, das ist einfach. Koche die Spargel wie üblich. Röste Semmelbrösel in Butter oder Margarine. Hacke ein gekochtes Ei in kleine Würfel und rühre unter die Brösel. Knalle die Spargel auf einen Teller und bedecke sie mit der Bröselmischung. Ein wenig Petersilie und/oder Schnittlauch darüber, und fertig ist es. Ich habe heute einfach kleingeschnittene Schinken anstatt vom Ei genommen, die Spargel klein geschnitten, alles in einer Pfanne durcheinander gemixt und einige dünne Scheiben Trappistenkäse drüberdrapiert bis er geschmolzen war. Mütterchen war sehr zufrieden damit.

Meine Oma machte Kartoffelpuffer von gekochten Kartoffeln und mit Hefe. Die waren lecker. Muß mal nach dem Rezept suchen, obwohl... Kohlenhydrate... :(

Das Harper Icon ist ja genial!

Die beiden Rezepte hören sich sehr lecker an! Semmelbrösel mit Butter machen wir schon mal öfter über Spargel oder Blumenkohl, aber Ei hereinugeben hatten wir noch nie probiert.

The text is very funny, too, I find. And the Harper *really* needs petting. He's been treated like shit, most of the series. Just like Tyr. Or Beka. It was all about Saint Dylan and Trance the powerful whatever and Rev Bem's redemption and that shit.

I can't remember at the moment whether you used to follow "Birthright", back when dinosaurs still roamed the Earth, but I intend to change things in that series very much. Perhaps now that I've overcome a nearly 5-year-long writer's block with the story, things will develop more speedily. *crosses fingers*

Avatar is well worth a watch if only for the beautiful visuals. The plot was total cliche but I loved the detail they put into the Pandora environment and all the insects and flowers and such. It would have been even better with a less predictable plot but I enjoyed it overall.

Yes, Avatar would have been really something if Cameron had only put more effort into improving the plot. But even with the weak plot, it's so visually gorgeous it's worth watching. (And in 3-D, it's simply stunning.)

Seen in 3-D on a large screen, it's without question the most immersive movie I've ever seen. Honestly, you're too busy gawping over the jaw-dropping beauty of the visuals to care overmuch about the plot. (I once jokingly suggested that Cameron could have done without a plot altogether and simply released the movie as a pseudo nature documentary with narration by Sir David Attenborough, and it would have done just as well at the box office.)

I, for one, would love to purchase the Planet Pandora miniseries (no doubt produced by the BBC). Can't you hear David Attenborough speaking?

Oh, me, too, definitely. What a gorgeous thing it would be!

Speaking of which, have you seen the programme "Dragon's World"? Also produced by the BBC. I posted about it on the Otherworlds board once. It was a fake documentation about having found dragon bones, and they did lit like they'd do witb some real dinosaur founds, with research methods and theories and all that. It was great fun. For a moment, I almost fell for it. *g*
