The Two Doctors and other stuff

... and still unable to catch up with thigs. Have written an ungodly amount, inclusive a brand new Torchwood/Dr.Who/Special Unit 2 crossover, which is in its seventh chapter, over at [livejournal.com profile] otherworlds_lib and will be finished in another two chapters. No, really.

This is the first time I've tried my hands on the Doctor, and I'm a bit unsure about the results, considering that the only episodes I've seen so far were the ones with Jack Harkness in it, given me by the lovely [livejournal.com profile] rcfinch. At least I'm now introduced to both Doctors now, Nine and Ten, and I've come to reverse my opinion about Christopher Eccleston (of whose 9th Doctor I've once seen a brief glimpse on Hungarian TV). I've decided that I like him better. Perhaps it's an age thing, but he seems more mature and more responsible to me. The 10th Doctor reminds me a bit too much of my teenaged students in his hyperness.

Oh, and I've realised that Rose is every bit as bad as Gwen - with the only excuse of being an immature young girl.

In any case, I've updated ten old stories during the last less than two months (some of them repeatedly) and started two brand new ones, of which "Special Unit 3" is now almost finished, so I think I've used the time well enough. I hope I'll maange to finish the current part of the Wishverse as well as SU3 before school starts again. After that, writing time will be sparse again. *le sigh*

Yay! Glad you got your hands on it. Cheers for the Ninth Doctor! Much angstier too. Better actor in his own right. Tenth is good looking though, and the episodes with him and Jack were even better than the first time.

Yeah. Rose is RTD's Mary Sue. I hate how she starts interfering with all the other companions too.

[identity profile] wiseheart.livejournal.com 2009-08-07 07:49 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, and she practically becoming a Goddess - oh, please someone hand me a bucket!

Of course, now I need to get my hands on "Aliens of London", too, because of Tosh... I so love Tosh! And the actress is good, too.

[identity profile] cirdan-havens.livejournal.com 2009-08-07 10:10 am (UTC)(link)
I like Tosh too. :) Too bad she gets screwed over. Youtube I say. Answer to everything. :p She only has a small role.

YouTube kills my eyes. I do watch things there but I prefer to watch them on TV, where I can actually see - and hear - what's going on.

so true about the rose thing, RTD can't leave her alone she was ruining doctor who.

and yes, tenth doctor and jack is brilliant the chemistry is delightful.

by the way wiseheart, have you watched utopia, where jack meets martha? delightful.

[identity profile] cirdan-havens.livejournal.com 2009-08-16 10:31 am (UTC)(link)
Jack is wonderful in Utopia. What're you taking your shirt off for? He and Martha do have a good rapport, and I'm glad it showed through in the episode of Torchwood.

It pisses me off that Gwen got upset about Jack chasing after the hand because that episode really showed how important the hand was.

Gwen pisses me off in every second she spends on screen. Period. I rarely hated a fictional character half as much as I hate her. Unfortunately, she's the Rose of Torchwood, and she gets more an more screen time as the series goes on. And since in CoE she's the only one who remainds, that's it for me. I'll never watch Torchwood again, save the reruns of old episodes.

For me, Torchwood ended at Season 2. Whatever comes afterwards, is something completely different... and of no interest for me.

[identity profile] rcfinch.livejournal.com 2009-08-08 07:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Sorry for the belated reaction! I'm glad you liked Christopher Eccleston's 9th doctor, and I believe you'd like the entire first season of the new Dr. Who series. As for the Number 10, Tennant's Doctor is a bit weirder than Eccleston's, but there are a few episodes without Jack Harkness that are really worth watching, too: The Girl in the fireplace (Season 2) and the double episode Human Nature & The Family of Blood and my personal favourite Blink (all Season 3).

Drat, LJ stopped mailing me the comments! Erm, yes...

I have serious difficulties keeping the various doctors and series apart. The only episodes I've ever seen were the ones you gave me, so I haven't got the faintest idea about how the series follow each other.

[identity profile] rcfinch.livejournal.com 2009-08-08 10:30 pm (UTC)(link)
The first season of the new series is the one with the 9th Doctor (Christopher Eccleston), who has Rose Tyler for his companion and changes into the tenth Doctor in the last episode of the season. You've seen that one, The Parting of the Ways. The next three seasons (2,3 and 4) are all with the 10th Doctor (David Tennant), but with various companions: Rose Tyler (season 2), Martha Jones (season 3) and Donna Noble (season 4). The 10th Doctor episodes you've seen are all from Season 3. I hope this helps a little.

[identity profile] wiseheart.livejournal.com 2009-08-09 09:54 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, it does, thank you. So, Christopher Eccleston only got one lousy season? For shame - I liked him a lot. The 10th doctor is a bit too hyper for my taste. But it comes perhaps from getting older - one begins to value the more... mature characters. Plus, for my part, I don't really find David Tennant as pretty as he's declared on various forums.

[identity profile] cirdan-havens.livejournal.com 2009-08-16 10:41 am (UTC)(link)
No, no. It was by his choice. They didn't kick him off. Christopher Eccleston probably read the script for second season and decided he didn't want to get together with Rose! :p Actually, he said it was because he didn't want to get pigeon-holed into being the Doctor, like how Patrick Stewart will always be seen as Jean-Luc Picard. I can really see that happening if he did stay because I honestly like all the episodes with the 9th Doctor whereas I probably only like half of each season from the 10th.

(Wish I had source material to give the episodes to you.)

I can't blame him for having such well-honed survival instincts. ;)

School Reunion too. *nod nod* It really touched on the current youth-oriented culture and how us older women get marginalized. I couldn't help but to empathize with that.

[identity profile] rcfinch.livejournal.com 2009-08-16 12:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Good point! "School reunion" was another fine episode, and I remember liking Sarah Jane Smit a lot better than Rose Tyler. IIRC Sarah Jane got her own spin-off series afterwards, so there is an audience for such things.

[identity profile] wiseheart.livejournal.com 2009-08-16 05:25 pm (UTC)(link)
You do realize, of course, when you're speaking of "us older women" that I could be your mother, right? ;o))

[identity profile] cirdan-havens.livejournal.com 2009-08-16 09:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Only if you were a teen mom. :p Besides, I'd rather be in your group than the youth group. I couldn't understand why anyone would like Gwen, but my younger sister found out by reading on the chat boards. Apparently teen girls like her because she can do anything, mess up, get people killed but is still forgiven. I just want to skip ahead to that point when I'm comfortable with who I am because it's just who I am.

[identity profile] lhun-dweller.livejournal.com 2009-08-15 02:15 am (UTC)(link)
Oh drat! I was just in the big bookstore this week and looked for magazines to send you. There were a couple Torchwood things, but I couldn't remember whether or not you liked that one. (We don't have cable TV, so I've seen maybe 10 minutes of an episode at a friend's house. I couldn't figure out what was going on and decided I didn't really care to pursue it further.)

Next time The Belove and I have a bookstore date, I'll know to what to buy!

[identity profile] wiseheart.livejournal.com 2009-08-15 06:47 pm (UTC)(link)
You and [livejournal.com profile] the_wild_iris and [livejournal.com profile] rcfinch are spoiling me rotten.
*is deeply touched*

Yes, Torchwood is very welcome, as long as it isn't about Gwen/Eve Myles. ;))
