Blood & Chocolate - the movie

I finally got around to watch it - and I don't care what rottentomatoes, the movie snobs and the CGI-freaks say, it was a great movie. Of course, I never read the original novel, just a short summary at Wikipedia, so I'm probably biased.

I liked the cast very much. Olivier Martinez was extremely hot, as always, but he brought a savage streak to his character that was irresistible and repulsive at the same time. Aiden was cute, but not annoyingly so. And the female characters looked refreshingly natural, without the usual overdone make-up one sees in almost every other movie. Besides, I like Katja Riemann.

The sets were gorgeous. I liked how they did the transformation stuff, too, and what the loup-garoux looked in full beast mode. I liked that most charcters were morally ambigious - not entirely bad, but not exactly good, either. It was convincing.

I'm of two mind about the outcome, though. As cute as Aiden is, I just can't buy that he and Vivien could really have a future together.

Hadn't heard of this movie, what's it about?

It's a werewolf movie. Wikipedia gives a fairly good overview here (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blood_and_Chocolate_(film)).

BTW, do you participate on [livejournal.com profile] kavtolanon's Secret Sancta ficathon this year?

That I am, though I'm currently stuck for ideas.

That's bad. I've just finished mine - not what I've envisioned at all, I've never written such a strange fic before, it's certainly not my usual style, but since I've managed to force myself to write it, who am I to complain?

I only hope Amy will find the time for a quick beta. People are always whining when one does make mistakes in a language not one's own, but when one asks for a voluntary beta, interestingly enough, the same people somehow never are interested. [/sarcasm]

I mean, spellchecker can only do so much for you, and no matter how many times I proofread, I tend not to notice the typos, as I have before my eyes what I intended to write, not what I actually did write. Ah, well...

If I get my 2 (yes, one fic and one graphic) done before the deadline then I'm happy to go over yours.

Thanks. If Amy can't do it, I'll cry for help. Loudly. Fortunately, I've restricted myself and finished it in one piece and seven pages. Wonders never cease to happen.

Hurray for managing it in a short amount! I had the same problem last year, and hence it didn't get finished as I happen to be bad at completely mutlichaptered...not that the recipient seemed to care as she only reviewed part 1 and not the other 2. This year I must keep it shortish.

Me, I usually suffer from the problem of every drabble developing into a multichapter monstrosity... which goes on for years and years... you get the picture.

I'm glad you liked it. It wasn't a bad film just completely different from the book. I don't think Aidan and Vivian could work out long term either and I preferred the book ending where she ended up with Gabriel instead. The only thing I really didn't like about the movie was the nonsense about a prophecy and how the alpha has to take a new mate every seven years. That was dumb but the rest was pretty good and the scenery and special effects were gorgeous.

Yeah, especially since wolves mate for life, don't they? But no movie can exist without the Ohmygod sexual tension, right?

Speaking of which, your new icon is rather... imaginative. *g*

Oh, Blood&Chocolate! I remember seeing that movie in the video store and meant to rent it, but then I forgot all about it. I hope they still have it, that's ages ago when I saw it in the video store.

I've bought it on a DVD sale in Vienna when we were there last month. It was fairly cheap, and I think it was worth the money.
