Juchuu!!! Gewonnen!

Finally, we've won our first gold medal! I don't care if we won't get another one, I'm just ridiculously happy that we won't finish the Olympics without one. That would have been the first time in the history of modern Olympics (the ones on which we started anyway), and thus a serious blow for our national pride... such as it is in these days.

In other news, we survived the latest national holidays without any atrocities for a change. It was August 20, the 1008th anniversary of Hungary's existence as a country. Perhaps the hooligans were distracted by the Olympics, or by the particularly spectacular fireworks (Gandalf would have paled with envy). Apparently, the good old Ancient Roman tactic of panem et circenses is still working.

First step of domestic disasters has been managed. The supporting rooms like kitchen, etc., are now beautiful white and clean. Next week the wall-to-wall carpets will be washed in the living room and the bedrooms, which means that the whole packing will start again, this time in the opposite direction, so that the cupboards can be moved out of the way more easily. *le sigh*

Also, school starts next Monday again - assuming I still have my job. These things will always be revealed in the last possible moment. Wish me luck, folks, I'm gonna need it, big time.

Congratulations on the gold! I confess that I've (deliberately) not watched any of the Olympics and don't have any real idea of how my country has done.

Good Thoughts on the job front (and commiserations on the domestic upheaval).
Cheers :)

Thanks for the good thoughts. Your people didn't do too badly, and I fired them on every time I saw them on screen. I only ever watch sports once in four years, but during the Olympics I watch them a lot. I particularly like the swimmers, the drivers and the various athletics disciplines - they have a strange beauty to them, I find.

Congratulations on the gold medals - this morning, I saw Hungary got another one! It *had* to happen some day.

Wishing you all the luck you need for the school troubles, and then some more.

Yes, I also caught sight of it rather by accident this morning. *is happy*

Thanks for the school-related good wishes. They're really, really needed.

Hurray for your gold!

And best wishes for Monday, I hope everything is OK.

[identity profile] wiseheart.livejournal.com 2008-08-23 12:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks. So do I. I'd really like to hold out for a few years yet, until I might be able to get into early retirement... if that wills till be possible when I reach that age.

It would be nice, though; I could write all day. *dreams on*

I watched Hungary getting the second gold medal. Congrats!

Good luck for school!

Thanks. :)

Congratulations on the gold medals! And on redecorating - lol. Can well understand you're not looking forward to cleaning carpets; there's a lot to be said for hardwood floors.

As to school starting again: don't worry ahead of time! (Sunday evening, 10pm, that's when it's time to panick.) Which classes will you be teaching this year?

[identity profile] wiseheart.livejournal.com 2008-08-24 05:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, we are closing up to that critical time...
As for classes, I'm not sure. There was a schedule in June, but that usually changes till September... and never for the good.

[identity profile] disthrainsdotte.livejournal.com 2008-08-23 09:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Redecorating is a PITA while it is done but afterwards it is worth it. I hope the work situation will sort itself out.

[identity profile] wiseheart.livejournal.com 2008-08-24 05:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I wish you the same work-wise. This doesn't seem to be our year of overwhelming good luck, eh?

[identity profile] disthrainsdotte.livejournal.com 2008-08-24 05:27 pm (UTC)(link)
It doesn´t, that´s for sure. *le sigh* It would be nice to know for longer than two weeks how I work.

[identity profile] wiseheart.livejournal.com 2008-08-24 05:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Poor you! *patpat*
I hope they won't fire me after 13 years yet, but I can't be sure. I'm "old", after all, and therefore useless, not to mention in a higher salary category than people half my age (although it still won't make me even moderately wealthy), ergo one must get rid of me, sooner or later...

[identity profile] disthrainsdotte.livejournal.com 2008-08-24 09:13 pm (UTC)(link)
I hope they will not do so either. *pats back*

Congrats to you on the medal front :) I will keep my fingers crossed for you on the job-front. *hugs*

[identity profile] wiseheart.livejournal.com 2008-08-26 12:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you. It seems they're keeping me, at least for this one more year. My schedule is the worst I've ever had, but hey, at least I still do have one!.

[identity profile] lhun-dweller.livejournal.com 2008-08-25 09:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Congrats on the medals -- I thought of you when I heard on the radio that your country had taken one.

As for the work beign done on the flat: Courage, Brave One!

And work? I, too, shall keep my fingers crossed for enough classes and decent students that you can keep your wits about you and at least survive the last couple years you need for your pension.

[Oh, and I found that other book... I hope to get to the post office tomorrow on the way to work, but will e-mail you to let you know when The Autumn Package is on its way!]

[identity profile] wiseheart.livejournal.com 2008-08-26 12:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks. I was very glad that we got two more, in the end, but for me the most important thing was that we got at least one. Sorry we had to beat your water polo team to defend our Olympic champion title, but it did our people really good.

Thanks for the good thoughts - one more year won, or so I begin to hope tentatively. Working schedule is horrible, but still better than no work. At least financially. I could entertain myself just fine without labouring, if someone else would pay the bills. *g*

As for the Autumn Package - you're spoiling me rotten, you know that, right? I think I have something that might interest you in exchange, but I'll set it aside for Xmas when I'm usually out of ideas.

[identity profile] the-wild-iris.livejournal.com 2008-08-27 08:14 am (UTC)(link)
I saw part of the water polo final and thought of you :)

Best of luck for Monday. Work might seem better once you're back in it - at least, I hope so.

[identity profile] wiseheart.livejournal.com 2008-08-27 06:29 pm (UTC)(link)
It was an exciting game, wasn't it? We were biting our nails over here.

Thanks for the good wishes. It seems that I can keep my job at least for this one school year. Working conditions are far from ideal, and it will be a hard year for me, but still better than being unemployed.
