Summer plans
So, now it's official. We're going to Stockholm this summer, in late July. We've been to the travel agency today, booked the journey and paid half the money. It's not exactly cheap, and it involves flying, which for me, is Teh Evil, but we've been wanting to go to Scandinavia for so long, and the programme seems interesting.
Not to mention that I might get the chance to meet Dís in person, which would be terrific. Another one from Edhellond, after
earonn,
altariel,
the_wild_iris and
edge_of_ruin! Yay! It means a lot to me, since I live under a rock and have so little chance to meet anyone I've got to know in cyberspace.
Will try to post the rest of the Slovenian and perhaps some of the French picspam before I got more pictures to share, though...

But you're right about 'not exactly cheap' - Scandinavia is an expensive place to visit, compared to most places. Wages are very high and of course this reflects in the costs of almost everything.
btw, my pic was taken in Sweden although in the Western part, far from Stockholm.

As for the costs, every place is expensive for us, I'm afraid. We have very weak money over here; have to pay 250+ forints (that's our national devise) for one frigging Euro. And with Mum retired and me an underpaid teacher, we usually start saving money for next year's holidays as soon as we return from this year's journey. *g*
But, you know, as my Granny always used to say, what I've seen nobody can take from me, so it's well worth the costs. Especially when I can meet people I've only known from the 'Net previously.

Atm, I'm also considering going to Sweden for a week in mid- or late July, although in the Western part of Sweden. May go with family in which case we'll be 8 or 10 people (mostly kids); only thing is, I don't think one can get online at the place we usually stay. Don't know if I can survive without my comp for so long!

Stockholm is very nice. From the couple of times I've visited, the thing that sticks in mind is seeing the Vasa. It is an old ship that sank on its maiden voyage and has since been recovered and is very impressive. It is definitely worth going to see if you get a chance.
Hopefully I'll get to meet you at some point as well, especially as I want to visit Budapest sometime. However, that will have to wait until at least one me and Sam have a proper job.

Whenever you manage to visit our country, tell me well in advance. Alas, I can only put up one houseguest, but if you both intend to come, I can look around and find you accommodations for a sensible price. Travel agencies always book you rooms in the most expensive hotels, which is ridiculous when all you need is an acceptable bed to sleep in and a shower/bath/whatever.
Compared with the UK, Hungary, isn't that expensive - your money is so much better than ours, plus when you have someone to show you around you won't walk into the pitfalls specifically designed for tourists. *g*
