Small things

We're slowly recovering from Sunday's "excitements". Meaning Mum and I. I decided to do little things for us - or not-so-little ones, because frankly, what we've experienced, nobody can take from us.

School organizes a trip to Prague in May, and I've decided to gift it upon Mum for the upcoming Christmas, her nameday and her birthday in January. That'd about make up the sum the trip would cost, if I throw St. Nicholas' day in the mix, too. But I don't really care. She deserves it, we can afford it (yet), and we've both wanted to visit Prague badly for many years by now. It's beautiful, and besides, [livejournal.com profile] larian would agree that a self-respecting Atlantis fan should visit Zelenka's hometown, especially if it's only a couple hours' trip from where I live.

It'll be a five-day-trip by bus, and everything will be organized for us - the way I like it best. I only wish we could find such a trip to Carcassonne as well. I'm really, really bad at organizing things, Cambridge only worked out as well as it did because I had [livejournal.com profile] altariel1, [livejournal.com profile] the_wild_iris and [livejournal.com profile] edge_of_ruin to back me. In a city where I have no friends to lend a hand, I hestitate to go all on my own.

Also, food was total crap in the school canteen today, so Mum and I decided to have toast, using up the old bread we've bought for the visitors on Saturday, and which said visitors failed to eat up. Meaning almost a loaf of untouched white bread. So I made grilled sandwiches of them, with some leftover smoked flesh and sausages and stuff. Not very healthy, but we enjoyed it greatly. Hell, my Granny ate unhealthy food all her life, she was seriously overweight and lived 96 years, 95 of them in near-complete health. If I manage 90% of that, I'll be content.

On other news, I've posted the next chapter of my Original Trek/Original Galactica crossover, "The Joy Machine", to [livejournal.com profile] otherworlds_lib. Just in case that anyone's still reading that sort of stuff. I'm pretty content with it as it is. Considering how old that story is, it hasn't suffered too much from the translation. It seems I'm slowly getting better at it.

Speaking of Trek, Kabel 1, one of the German channels, had a Trek marathon today. They've been showing selected Trek episodes and movies all day, celebrating the 40-year-anniversary. I haven't watched much of it, but it's a great thing for people who don't have everything in tape the way I do.

Good for you treating yourself. I've never been to Prague, but have heard from many people what a wonderful city it is.

Now that I got this shiny new digital camera from Mum for my 50th birthday (coming up next Monday, isn't it frightening?) and the hope to learn how to use it properly, I'm planning to make an ungodly amount of pics in Prague, and I'll share it with you folks. ;))

From all I've heard, Prague is a beautiful city. You deserve it, and you'll do just fine there.

What a WONDERFUL idea! And something fun to look forward to over the winter for both of you. What a thoughtful daughter you are!

(And yes, do practice with your new camera so you can post some pics, please.)

Will do. The trip is in May, hopefully, I'll be able to handle the camera by then. *g*
