A good kind of stress

We've had fun with [livejournal.com profile] earonn during the long weekend. I got to go to places again I only visit when I have a guest and even saw a few things I haven't yet seen myself. Like the change of the guard at the President's official residence. Or the temporary exhibition about King Sigismund of Luxembourg, which was great. I even bought a heraldic dragon pendant there. It's pretty. I think I'll use it in some Dwarf story one day.

Now, however, I don't really have time to write. We're preparing for the big term-closing concert, which will be on the day after tomorrow. We're going to sing 11 pieces, and in at least 5 of them I've got to sing the contralto solo. In two pieces I have to sing alone. On the one hand, it's great, and I appreciate the chance to shine for once (yes, I'm vain, so what?); on the other hand, I'm scared spitless, as the pieces aren't that easy. Well, let's hope the best. About the only thing I have common with Elves is my love for singing.

Thirteen more day left until I go to England to see Cambridge an to meet [livejournal.com profile] altariel1 and [livejournal.com profile] the_wild_iris. I'm very nervous, as this is our very first trip there that we are doing on our own, not as participants of some organized package holiday. I'm scared that we won't find the coach, that I've somehow messed up the online booking for the rooms (yes, they have acknowledged, but that doesn't mean that I won't fret, thank you very much - I'm strange that way). Oh, and have I remembered that I'm deadly afraid of flying? And so is Mum?

I hope we'll have a good time and I get to meet the people I go there for in the first place. I'm always nervous before a trip, and dragging my 74-year-old Mum with me doesn't makes it easier for me. If I mess up something and have to wander around in a foreign city, that's bad enough. But with Mum, it'd be a disaster.

Oh, well, I hope everything will be all right. But I won't calm down until we've found our B&B and I can see that everything is OK, I guess.

You're going to Cambridge to see [livejournal.com profile] altariel1 and [livejournal.com profile] the_wild_iris?! You're going to have a marvelous time!

So I hope. Unless I lose my way, manage to *not* find the coach or the hotel, or... or... or...

*is scared*

Just take some nice, deep breaths... everything's going to be fine! You and your mother are both going to have a wonderful time!

Which airport are you flying into?

[identity profile] wiseheart.livejournal.com 2006-06-08 11:06 am (UTC)(link)
Lutton. I'm trying to breathe deeply, but it isn't easy. I tend to panic in such situations. *g*

have I remembered that I'm deadly afraid of flying? And so is Mum?

So was I, before I went to Birmingham last year. But it was the only way to get there in time if I didn't want to spend additional money on a hotel, so I had to. And it wasn't nearly as bad as I'd feared. In fact, it was so undaunting that I've already flown again, and plan to do so once more this summer. So take heart!

B.T.W., did you get my message that the Leper arrived?

Not yet, but I'm at work where I can't access my private mailing program. Thanks. I gave your money to [livejournal.com profile] earonn, you'll get it on the weekend. :)

Wishing you good luck for your concert. You'll do wonderfully, I'm sure - after all, they keep giving you the solos, so your lovely voice must enchant them!

As to your flight and travel plans, you're going to a very civilized place, not the wilds of outer Mongolia. You are meeting folks there who will help you get oriented, I'm sure. And if you are on your own and should happen to be confused or uncertain as to which way to go, you can ask a shop keeper, a police officer or a fellow pedestrian for help. And if you should happen to be in the wrong place, you'll find a bus or taxi or subway to take you where you want to be.

I think you and your mum will have a lovely time, and when you get back home, you'll have discovered that you can indeed fly, and suddenly, you, too, will be able to travel over the seas to the lands beyond the sun!

Well, I don't sing all the solos alone (only two of them), we usually take two or three people for each voice, just in case one of us has a bad day. but it's really an inspiring thing.

As for flying, I doubt that I'll ever do it when I can avoid it. It's not my first time, after all, and I always swear not to do it ever again. *g*

You are going to have a wonderful time! Don't fret about the flight or your plans, all will be well, and if there are any little hitches they can be worked out.

I wish I could be there for your concert, it sounds like it will be lovely and you must be good if you will be singing five solo's wow! I'm a contralto too and always had to stand next to the boys when I sang in school choirs (not necessarily a bad thing) because there were only a couple of we girls with the deeper voices. You'll be fine, don't be scared.

I hope someone will record it and burn it into a CD - in that case I'll send it to you. We have a really beautiful repertoire, very different pieces, it's a real joy to sing them.

Good luck with the concert. Drop me an email when you've recovered, and we'll chat about what you think you'd like to do while you're here.

The weather has been stunning here the past couple of weeks - hot, but the town is looking beautiful. I hope it keeps up this show while you're here!

So do I. Will mail you tomorrow... need to get all my details straight first. Not an easy thing, in my current state of mind.
