Cauliflower Day

At least in our house. Sorry, [livejournal.com profile] noadvertising, but we both like the stuff. Don't unfriend me, okay?*g*

Not that it was originally planned, mind you. I just had to do the food run, as we had no bread, no milk and no potatoes in the house, and I was considering what I might want to eat. Ever since that digestion struggle, it's hard to find something that appears appetizing. Then I discovered the lovely cauliflowers, slightly reduced in price and promptly bought the biggest one I could find. Originally I was thinking of making simply steamed cauliflower with breadcrumbs fried in butter, but then I realized that won't last two days. And I wanted to spare myself one cooking day. So I decided to make carbonara, only with steamed cauliflower instead of spaghetti, and then put the whole thing into the oven with lots of grated cheese to bake over.

What can I say? It was fantastic! And I used the water in witch the cauliflower was cooked (together with a Suppenwürfel) to make Tütensuppe, which meant two different dishes out of the same single piece of vegetable. Am I efficient or am I efficient? I also bought a large pink grapefruit, peeled it and removed all the membranes from between the segments, and we had that for dessert.

We ate half of everything and put away the other half for Monday, when we'll have the usual cleaning frenzy and I won't have the energy to cook. Tomorrow there will be stuffed chicken legs, as there are some days-old Kipferl that need to be used up, so they will go into the stuffing. It's cooled down enough to switch on the oven, thank God, so I can make things I actually like. Still haven't decided what to bake tomorrow, but there definitely will be baking, now that I can do it without risking heat stroke. Yay!

Crafting-wise I worked a bit on the other felt book, which is stupid, as that one is only due around Christmas. But I was fed up with paper and felt-tipped pens that leave smears on one's fingers and double-sided tape that sticks to everywhere, only not where you'd like it to stick, so I decided to do some nice, simple stitching while watching Richterin Barbara Salesch on RTL.

That sounds like a delicious way to make cauliflower, I will have to try it since I'm also a big fan of efficient multi-day cooking

Funnily enough, our plan was also to buy cauliflower on sale today but i was out of it with migraine and mom with her arthritis being bad, so neither of us felt like going shopping. Fortunately, we are still good on the basics so we decided to skip the weekly sales and go Monday.

Gosh, I hope you'll both get better, soon!

Hmmm ...cauliflower.
And the way you make it sounds yummy.

It is very yummy — and requires fairly little actual work. *g*

Go you with the cooking smarts.

[identity profile] wiseheart.livejournal.com 2023-09-17 04:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Haha, thanks! I'm fairly innovative in my cooking, with the main points being that it should take little time, little effort and consist of ingredients we both like. ;))

Both good points.

That cauliflower-instead-of-pasta carbonara in the oven with cheese sounds delicious!!!

It turned out really great. We've saved one half for Monday, but it was hard. To resist eating the whole of it, I mean. ;)

Yuck! The thought alone- me having digestive problems and eating cauliflower!

[identity profile] wiseheart.livejournal.com 2023-09-17 04:38 pm (UTC)(link)
I guess you'd get digestive problems from eating cauliflower, right? *g*

Lol. The only time I will eat cauliflower is if someone else prepares it. The cooking smell seems to linger for days.
