Page 8/Congratulations and felicitations

Behold the chicken and the unproportionally giant ant sharing the bread:

With this, all individual pages of the songbook are officially completed. Now to put the actual book together...

Also: Happy Birthday, dear [livejournal.com profile] meathiel! I hope it was a nice one and that you keep recovering speedily. Here, have some virtual calories:

Giant ninja ant! Very cute page.

Thanks. I hope the ant won't cause nightmares by anyone. Like in those monster movies where bugs get an appetite for man-flesh... ;))

Such an adorable story!

Thanks. :)

I love that the creatures are not in proportion. I need a translation of the story.

[identity profile] wiseheart.livejournal.com 2023-08-01 05:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, it goes (roughly) like this:
1. At the river bank, 3 crows are cutting the wheat.
2. The fox is collecting it, the gnat is binding the the sheaves.
3. The flea jumps and throws them onto the wagon.
4. The wagon goes to the mill.
5. In the mill, there are three colourful cats.
6. One sifts the flour, one fans the flour, the third one cuts stone.
7. The grey donkey brings water and pours it into the through.
8. The cow kneads the dough and puts it into the oven.
9. The bear waits for the bread to bake.
10. The chicken picks the bread, the ant collects the crumbles.

Part of some verses — or indeed the entire verses in some places — are repeated, so that they end up the same length.

I love the randomness of all the creatures and the jobs they do. Typical children's rhyme. :D

Giant ant is out of proportion but looks very friendly. If it would not be out of proportion the children would have to search for it forever...

That is very true, of course. I just don't understand why the original used such a large ant, while using a small gnat and a small flea. But I was asked to copy it, so I did. Except with the crows and the cats, as I cut their shapes out before I'd have seen the original.
