Advent, Day 22

I got up at half past 5, which is abysmally early in my books, so I could be at Aldi and Lidl, respectively, right when they open. Oddly enough, a great many other people got the same idea, and when I reached Lidl at 7:10, it were so full I could hardly find a shopping cart. I never saw so many people in there; but, of course, Hungarian people regularly panic when the food shops are closed for two days in a row. I guess they're afraid they'd starve if they can't go and buy food any time the fancy takes them. I don't even want to think about what the supermarkets will be like tomorrow and the morning after! I certainly won't leave the house until next Tuesday.

In any case, I got everything I needed (this was the first time I went out since last Saturday, when I froze hard during the concert), which is good, since the fridge was practically empty. Then we had breakfast, watched some telly, and the talkative chiropodist lady came around 10am. She was in great form, so she only left around 1pm. *sigh* By that time I decided that putting up the Christmas tree would have to wait until tomorrow. I was mentally drained by all that talking.

At least I managed to finish the car page. All required elements are in place, the only thing I might or might not add is a teddy bear crossing the road. Tomorrow, if there's enough natural light for the mini, I'll try to take a photo.

We had lunch, watched some more telly, and then broke down and had a nap, both of us. When we woke up, it was 5:30pm - really too late to do anything of importance. So we didn't. Mum talked to her friend, I talked to Evie, and that was it for today. Well, there's still a lot of washing-up to do for Mum, but that's her own fault for not letting me do it.

OMG what a grocery nightmare! Good that you don't have to go again until next week. We will need to go tomorrow but hopefully it won't be too bad.

I didn't dare to leave it for tomorrow. Aside from the fact that we had no bread in the house, I wanted to reserve the last two days for decorating the tree and baking a Baumstamm cake. And for the obligatory Christmas cooking, of course.

Of course! Important tasks! Have fun with the Christmas prep

Oh, I certainly will! Seeing that I'll have two full days for it... a rare luxury.

Grocery shopping is a nightmare indeed these days! Hubby will do it tomorrow morning, before he brings Cassian to kindergarten, and that´s it for the next days!

Having a car — and more storage space than we do — can come in handy by that.

If you find a parking space- then yes!

I see how that can be a problem.

Mom plans to go shopping tomorrow morning ... we'll see how that goes.

I wish her good luck — and a lot of strength!

Wow, way early to go hunting, er, shopping.

[identity profile] wiseheart.livejournal.com 2022-12-22 11:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Not really. I usually go shopping twice a week, as I don't have a car and have to be careful with how much I can carry, but I've worked out the best method for keeping the fridge full. *g* And I wanted the last two days before Christmas free for decorating the tree and cooking/baking.

Oh, I meant in the morning. :) Early for me.

Yay for keeping the fridge full. Isn't it frustrating when something changes your routine?

[identity profile] wiseheart.livejournal.com 2022-12-23 05:41 pm (UTC)(link)
It is. It drives me mad!
As for shopping in the morning, yes, it is a bit early, but if you want to get your choice items before the old ladies pour in and buy up everything, you have to get there early. Unless the old ladies get the same idea, of course. *g*

lol

The food shopping panic will be today and tomorrow here. I got in a little run to the local shop yesterday and that's it. If I do not have an item now, I shall do without it until after Christmas. I shall not starve, for the sake of a pot of cream or a tomato.

[identity profile] wiseheart.livejournal.com 2022-12-23 05:39 pm (UTC)(link)
That is a very sensible approach to things. :)

I finished my grocery shopping yesterday, as I do not want to leave the house now that the frigid weather is here. I guess everyone else had the same idea, as the supermarkets were an absolute madhouse, more so than usual at this time of year. Glad that is over. I napped yesterday, too, as it was nice and warm under the covers. Wish I could have stayed there all day, but I don't want to get my days and nights mixed up, lol.
