It's hot!

No kidding! Apparently, we had 35°C today, which might not seem much for someone who lives in California, for example, but for us, it's pretty hot. Not to mention that in the concrete monstrosity in which we live it feels even more. Especially as we get a lot of sun in the afternoon. The walls then keep radiating all the heat they've swallowed during the day in the night. *sigh*

Yes, I know. I whine about this every summer. And I also know that we're still fortunate that we haven't had any stormy rains so far (leaking balcony, anyone?). But I didn't bear the heat well even in my youth, and now as an old hag it feels even harder.

Accordingly, not much was done today. We did a bit of cooking, I worked a tiny bit on the shabby chic journal in the early morning, then we watched Mass on the telly and spent the afternoon in a somewhat comatose state. Last night the first gnats or whatever Mücken are called in English appeared, and now I'm full of bites. Joy, joy, joy!

I tried to put together a scene for a later chapter of "Magic Mirror" - with moderate success. But it's still better than nothing. The only positive aspect of the day was a lovely phone call from Evie. We commiserated about the heat for a while and I realized that she had it worse: she had to work in the garden!

I feel you ... the house was so hot and stuffy last night and i didn't sleep well. It's started to rain a few hours ago and now it's only about 20° ... bliss!

I imagine. Of course, rain is always a different kind of stress for us, but as long as it is quiet and falling in a straight line...

How's your mum coping? Extreme heat can get a bit dangerous for the very old. You might have to spritz her!

Mum is a champion! She's actually taking it better than I do. Granted, we've both slowed down very much, but other than that, she's fortunately all right.

You are just the opposite of me, who would most likely be comfortable with the weather you are having. I did not do much today either, watched a drama on Viki and cleaned house a bit. Just a very lazy day for all of us. Hope you guys get a break from the heat soon.

Wait, the gnats invaded your house?!

[identity profile] wiseheart.livejournal.com 2020-06-29 01:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, the online dictionary offered seven (!) different words, among them gnats, midges, mosquitoes and whatnot. Gnats was the first, so I took that one. But yeah, it's warm so they show up. I never actually saw them, mind you, I just noticed the red, itching spots on my arms. For some reason the dratted creatures love me. If there is one within a hundred-mile-radius, it will find me.

Oh man. Any of those critters are annoying, so I totally hear you. Luckily I can keep my windows and doors closed in general (animals, dirt, wind) so I don't get them invading my house.

I was thinking the name makes them sound like the Scottish midgies - and they are nasty little sods!

Sometimes I feel like summer heat will kill me. Heat is the worst. Stay cool. I hope your heat wave passes.

I feel the same, heat scares me.

Heat is the worst.

Well, I wouldn't put my hopes too high. It is summer, after all.

I would melt, I find 25 too much! Hope it soon cools down for you.

Haha, I agree. Between 22 and 27 degrees I'm fine. Anything beyond or below is too much or too little.
