Yvoire and the creative process
I found a piece of my past today - a very small one, but one that I liked very much as long as it lasted.
I've begun to do serious research for the Shadows of the Past-prequel - for those who don't know it, that is a Fourth Age story, in which Faramir realizes that Boromir had an illegitimate son.
The main event - i.e. a battle and the following begetting of said son - takes place in a small fishing village that I christened Halabor, for reasons I don't remember any longer.
Now that I've made serious (and mostly fruitless) thoughts about Gondor's council, began to discuss the affairs of the Garrison of Osgiliath with Shakes and made up a crude senior staff for Boromir (complete with a history and a family background for each officer) I started looking for the village itself.
Fortunately, inspiration struck, and I remembered having spent an hour or so in a small fishing village in France during my stay in Evian, in the early 1990es. I didn't even remember the name, but my Mother - who is a much better organized person than I am - managed to dug out her old photos, and so we found out that the village in question is Yvoire. It has a small castle, a beautiful port and lots of nice old houses. I think, leaving out the modern parts, it will do just nicely.
If anyone is interested, the homepage of Yvoire is here:

It's in French, but go through Google and you can have the whole page translated. It's worth a visit. The pretty pictures can be found if you click on the A guided tour link.
