I've long since realised books differ to films, TV series are different again. We are all just along for the ride of a director's version or imagination, and so I sit back and try to enjoy it. I haven't seen the new Star Trek yet either, but I've only recently seen the The Hobbit. Yes, there are some differences from the book, but not enough to seriously bother me.
