Party time again!

Hi folks! *waves*

Time is flying by, isn't it? It's that time of a year again - I'm getting older. In this case, I'm turning 55 on October 9, which used to be an important thing, back under the old regime. Women could retire at the age of 55 back then. So I've decided to ignore all that fantastic headway we've supposedly made towards democracy in the last two decades and enter my virtual retirement, blithley overlooking the fact that I'll have to work another 7 or 8 or only God knows how many years.

So, let's party! Last years virtual birthday party yielded 742 comments on 6 pages, which won't be easy to top, but we're good, aren't we? WE CAN DO IT! So, let's give it a try! In the recent years, it has always been great fun, so let's have fun again!

You're all cordially invited to help yourself to a slice of virtual Dobos Cake recipe - it's my absolute favourite, although I never managed to get it as good as my Garnny used to.

Cheers!

Note: The party will be closed on October 9, at midnight, sharp. Join us and have fun!

Good luck! :)
Thank you! I feel luck is very much needed, along with some hard work on my part. The department doesn't completely leave me on my own to work out how to do this teaching malarkey -- thankfully! -- so I have a meeting with my academic mentor on Tuesday, which he initiated to work out what help I need from him. I am hoping to have my first set of lecture slides ready by the meeting to show to him to get some feed-back on them. The students get to 'score' their lecturers and this is take seriously by the university. However, this is only done once the course is over, so it doesn't give room for improving during the course.

I am hoping to be able to pop in now and then, thinking I might consider it a reward for getting jobs like writing sets of lecture notes done. :-) They do tell us we should try and encourage our students by giving them carrots, so I should be practising that, right? ;-)

I'll have to ask Merlin to conjure up another virtual cake then...

Sounds like a lot of work, but like you have a lot of support - and if they take teaching that seriously it should mean that they think you are ready to deal with it. :)

Sounds like a very good plan. :)

Oh, best of luck with the course, and I'm glad to hear your department has a good support and mentoring structure in place.

Dropping past here is going to be my reward for finishing various pieces of marking and seminar preparation, so I'm right with you!
