Party time again!

Hi folks! *waves*

Time is flying by, isn't it? It's that time of a year again - I'm getting older. In this case, I'm turning 55 on October 9, which used to be an important thing, back under the old regime. Women could retire at the age of 55 back then. So I've decided to ignore all that fantastic headway we've supposedly made towards democracy in the last two decades and enter my virtual retirement, blithley overlooking the fact that I'll have to work another 7 or 8 or only God knows how many years.

So, let's party! Last years virtual birthday party yielded 742 comments on 6 pages, which won't be easy to top, but we're good, aren't we? WE CAN DO IT! So, let's give it a try! In the recent years, it has always been great fun, so let's have fun again!

You're all cordially invited to help yourself to a slice of virtual Dobos Cake recipe - it's my absolute favourite, although I never managed to get it as good as my Garnny used to.

Cheers!

Note: The party will be closed on October 9, at midnight, sharp. Join us and have fun!

It doesn't exactly bother me - I enjoy the show, but it is really interesting to see people trying to fit bits of mythology to the show's versions of the characters.
But then, I love different versions of the stories and all the different retellings and the so forth. I've got loads of books and dvds of different versions - after all it is really all just like fanfic, but legal ;)

Have you seen any of the new(ish) Camelot series? Or heard anything about it? I've seen the first ?half of the series (it got cancelled at the end of the first series).

As for magic being used to control people - in the end it all comes down to power, doesn't it?
Very true.

Surely we can get the real thing somewhere still--Vienna perhaps? Road trip?

I'm still working on the story I was writing during picowrimo July, I've been a bit swamped the last two months and haven't progressed as far as I wanted to. I'd like to work on it for November picowrimo I think. In the meantime, I've gotten my assignment for the MFU fandom's Xmas story exchange so I've started fiddling with that a bit as well.

Are you going to be taking another stab at Windswept during picowrimo?

Ooh, lovely. I like the fact that Jenny meets them after she has learned how to live in the universe, survive and help people. And so much background - all of the things mentioned in her past are so intriguing - I like the fact that she has been dealing with races etc that have not come up in the show, because it allows her to have thwarted dangers that the rest of them don't have to face.

[identity profile] wiseheart.livejournal.com 2011-10-02 03:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Perhaps, I'm not sure. There's the Merlin epos that promises some good headway, plus Tolkien's Dwarves... but yeah, should the inspiration hit, I'll give it a try. You must write when you feel like writing, otherwise it's no fun at all.

I'm not sure they make Dobos Cake in Vienna, but I'll look it up for you when I get there with the 8th term group around the end of November. Suicidal me have volunteered to make a guided tour with them - must have been addled in the brain at that moment or whatnot.

No, I haven't seen any of Camelot yet. The first series, or what's there of it, was on sale as a boxed edition when I went to England, but I didn't know whether my cash would be enough, as it was at the very beginning of the trip, so I didn't dare to buy it.

I read a lot of derogative comments, including the one that the only highlight were the nekkid sex scenes, especially the ones with Eva Green, so I'm actually glad I haven't wasted my money on it. Still, I'd like to watch it, as Sean Pertwee and Clive Standen are in it, and I like them both.

Perhaps German TV will bring it one day...

That was the general consensus at [livejournal.com profile] antigwenallies during a discussion about this very topic, and I must say that I agree.

Don't worry about Ianto, though - you've seen how well he came out of the whole situation in "Everything Changes" and "Wedding". He's a tough one.

Thanks. I wanted something different than the ever-repetitive adversaries of the Whoniverse. I admit to have been influenced by [livejournal.com profile] jen_rock's Thirteen Species while making up my aliens, even though mine ended up different. There are similarities, but the end result is something else entirely. As for the names, I simply clicked on the Exotic Name Generator and picked out the ones that sounded best.

Jenny has been on her lonely crusade for about six years or so when she meets the Torchwood gang. (Crash-lands in Andy's back yard, in fact.)

Yes! They do seem to overuse the main enemies - like they aren't prepared to do the work of developing new interesting ones.

Works well! :D

So it will be good for her to have people to help for a change! But she will have had to become very good at surviving! :D

I can see that he came out of fine, but that doesn't make my sympathise less with his pain along the way.

From what I've seen it isn't too bad - but then I like the fact that it is anchored in an earlier historical period and actually deals with the issues of Arthur trying to establish himself as king - there is a sword in the stone, but it doesn't make everyone accept him as king and start being civilised...

However, not sure if it worth spending much money on - I really should watch the rest of the episodes and see where they go...

Oh, I love the idea of the Black Numenoreans having their own system of Stewardship, and looking for the return of Ar-Pharazon! That is absolutely inspired!

And did I capture a glimpse of Andrahar's back story in there?

[identity profile] altariel.livejournal.com 2011-10-02 03:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, best of luck with the course, and I'm glad to hear your department has a good support and mentoring structure in place.

Dropping past here is going to be my reward for finishing various pieces of marking and seminar preparation, so I'm right with you!

It's your birthday and I get presents? Oh well, this is why I love hobbits! ;)

No, seriously, thank you very much, you're so sweet! *hugs*

The snippet is utterly adorable, too, Lancelot is so Lancelot, all earnest and chivalrous, I really look forward to when the mood strikes you to continue this story. I already get the feeling that Lancelot and Elena will be hilarious and adorable together!

It's quite different from the BBC series, where Arthur is already crowned as the Crown Prince, I guess. As I said, I'd like to watch it, even if it's bad, because I'm curious, but not badly enough to spend money on it, unless it's a sale. The guy who plays Sir Kay looks awfully cute, though.
