Party time again!

Hi folks! *waves*

Time is flying by, isn't it? It's that time of a year again - I'm getting older. In this case, I'm turning 55 on October 9, which used to be an important thing, back under the old regime. Women could retire at the age of 55 back then. So I've decided to ignore all that fantastic headway we've supposedly made towards democracy in the last two decades and enter my virtual retirement, blithley overlooking the fact that I'll have to work another 7 or 8 or only God knows how many years.

So, let's party! Last years virtual birthday party yielded 742 comments on 6 pages, which won't be easy to top, but we're good, aren't we? WE CAN DO IT! So, let's give it a try! In the recent years, it has always been great fun, so let's have fun again!

You're all cordially invited to help yourself to a slice of virtual Dobos Cake recipe - it's my absolute favourite, although I never managed to get it as good as my Garnny used to.

Cheers!

Note: The party will be closed on October 9, at midnight, sharp. Join us and have fun!

New page!

[identity profile] jenn-calaelen.livejournal.com 2011-10-07 12:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Yay, page 5! \o/

80 comments to go to last year's number!

[identity profile] altariel.livejournal.com 2011-10-07 12:23 pm (UTC)(link)
You got 666! The Comment of the Beast!

[identity profile] jenn-calaelen.livejournal.com 2011-10-07 12:25 pm (UTC)(link)
It must be an evil comment.... :)

[identity profile] altariel.livejournal.com 2011-10-07 12:34 pm (UTC)(link)
*eyes it nervously*

[identity profile] rcfinch.livejournal.com 2011-10-07 01:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Well done!

And we inch ever closer to the 700 mark...

*applauds*

[identity profile] jenn-calaelen.livejournal.com 2011-10-07 03:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Very nearly there....

[identity profile] jenn-calaelen.livejournal.com 2011-10-07 03:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Very, very near to 700...

[identity profile] altariel.livejournal.com 2011-10-07 03:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Seven hundred!

[identity profile] altariel.livejournal.com 2011-10-07 03:39 pm (UTC)(link)
And the weekend still ahead of us!

[identity profile] jenn-calaelen.livejournal.com 2011-10-07 03:57 pm (UTC)(link)
yes :)

Just went out ot walk to the postbox - lovely, cool, clear, sunny autumn day - a pity this weather isn't supposed to last

[identity profile] altariel.livejournal.com 2011-10-07 04:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Beautiful here too: yellow-gold autumn sun through the browning leaves. I love this time of year.

[identity profile] jenn-calaelen.livejournal.com 2011-10-07 04:22 pm (UTC)(link)
I love it when it is like this. The sun is shining in - through the trees (as it is low enough at this time of year) and making pretty patterns on the wall.
Not so much when it is dark, grey, overcast and drizzling for days... and it feels like there isn't any light.

[identity profile] altariel.livejournal.com 2011-10-07 06:40 pm (UTC)(link)
And the colours are lovely, and there's a nice mulchy smell of leaves.

[identity profile] jenn-calaelen.livejournal.com 2011-10-07 06:43 pm (UTC)(link)
yes. :)

725!

[identity profile] jenn-calaelen.livejournal.com 2011-10-07 05:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Only another 17 comments to equal last year (including this one)...

Re: 725!

[identity profile] jenn-calaelen.livejournal.com 2011-10-07 06:02 pm (UTC)(link)
We are slowly creeping up on it! :D

Re: 725!

[identity profile] altariel.livejournal.com 2011-10-07 06:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Surely we can manage it this evening...

735!

[identity profile] jenn-calaelen.livejournal.com 2011-10-07 06:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Less than 10 comments to go...

Re: 735!

[identity profile] altariel.livejournal.com 2011-10-07 06:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Even closer now...

[identity profile] altariel.livejournal.com 2011-10-07 06:45 pm (UTC)(link)
WOO HOO! New comments record!

[identity profile] altariel.livejournal.com 2011-10-07 06:49 pm (UTC)(link)
We're crashing through this barrier!

[identity profile] jenn-calaelen.livejournal.com 2011-10-07 06:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Next goal 800? Or a new page?

[identity profile] wiseheart.livejournal.com 2011-10-07 08:45 pm (UTC)(link)
New page, definitely. We must be careful with the new record - after all, we'll have to break it again next year. ;)

[identity profile] edge-of-ruin.livejournal.com 2011-10-07 07:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Yay! Party time again! Happy, happy birthday! Lots and lots of love *hugs*

[identity profile] altariel.livejournal.com 2011-10-07 08:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Hello you! Welcome to the party!

[identity profile] edge-of-ruin.livejournal.com 2011-10-07 08:23 pm (UTC)(link)
*Cheers to you!* Either I'm drunk or I'm seeing Russian when I try to log in ...

[identity profile] wiseheart.livejournal.com 2011-10-07 08:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you! How nice of you to drop by!

Congratulations, to everyone!

[identity profile] wiseheart.livejournal.com 2011-10-07 08:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Great work, folks! While I was away to do as mundane things as working and shopping for groceries, you managed to break last year's record. That's fantastic, to quote the 9th Doctor. Well done indeed.

We'll have to aim for first-grade comments from now on. We still have two days to reach Page 7 - it will be hard, but doable, I guess... plus, if we produce too high counts this year, how are we going to beat that in the next one? *g*

Re: Congratulations, to everyone!

[identity profile] jenn-calaelen.livejournal.com 2011-10-07 09:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Go everyone! \o/

Hopefully next year lj won't go down/slow in the middle of it...

Lesson time!

[identity profile] lhun-dweller.livejournal.com 2011-10-08 12:26 am (UTC)(link)
I'm going to assume you meant "first-level" comments, but I'm going to pretend you did mean "first-grade" comments in American English because then I can play with that theme, writing a small child's alphabet of entries!

(First grade in the US used to be the first year of full-day school, while kindergarten was only a half-day, either morning or afternoon. Nowadays, K is often all-day: both parents work, lots more that kids have to learn and so on.

Re: Lesson time!

[identity profile] wiseheart.livejournal.com 2011-10-08 07:45 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I did mean first level comments. Especially since *all* comments in this party are of the highest grade: excellent!

A is for apple...

Shiny and red,
That fell from a tree and
Hit Aragorn on the head.

Re: A is for apple...

[identity profile] wiseheart.livejournal.com 2011-10-08 07:46 am (UTC)(link)
So Newton was actually Aragorn reborn? Go figure!

Re: A is for apple...

[identity profile] solanpolarn.livejournal.com 2011-10-08 11:20 am (UTC)(link)
This is going to change all of physics for me! Newton is an old hero, one of the first times I understood what scientific research was and went "Wow, that is sooo cool!" Yes, I was geeky already as a 13-year-old. Probably before then if I'm honest...

You weren't the only one. As a little girl of 7 or 8, my firm career plan was to go to work for Jacques Cousteau on his boat.

B is for Balin

Whose home is the pits
Since the Orcs came to visit
And left it in bits.

C is for Cirdan

Both female and male,
She's Wisheart's friend, and
He knows how to sail.

I haven't quite finished my second set of lecture slides yet (which is actually for my first two lectures) so in some ways I am not allowed the reward of dropping in on this party. On the other hand, I did hold my first ever tutorial with my group of first year tutees, so I have done teaching that I should get some bonus for. The tutorial went quite well I thought, and while I think I probably talked more than my five tutees put together during our hour-long tutorial, they did do some talking. I was a bit worried about this, because I had seen them briefly on a few occasions throughout the week, and found them very quiet. However, they did all contribute opinions and answers to questions during today's tutorial, so perhaps their quietness earlier was due to things like just starting university, not knowing each other and not knowing me, which makes sense to me. Hopefully they will get even livlier as the term progresses, so that they do as much, or maybe even more, talking than me each during future tutorials.

You do heroic work. *sends supportive vibes in your direction*

D is for Dunedain

Aragorn's kin.
They wander the roads
And hang out at the inn.

Re: D is for Dunedain

[identity profile] solanpolarn.livejournal.com 2011-10-08 12:38 am (UTC)(link)
This is a really cool idea and I love your alphabet rhymes. Sorry for breaking into them with my comment; you hadn't started when I began typing it and then suddenly there were four new first level comments when I had finished.

Re: D is for Dunedain

[identity profile] lhun-dweller.livejournal.com 2011-10-08 01:06 am (UTC)(link)
That's OK! Folks will need a break from my inevitable slide into snarky humor!

Re: D is for Dunedain

[identity profile] wiseheart.livejournal.com 2011-10-08 07:47 am (UTC)(link)
Your snarky humour is made the win!

Re: D is for Dunedain

[identity profile] solanpolarn.livejournal.com 2011-10-08 11:17 am (UTC)(link)
Snarky humour is the best kind! Actually these remind me of my brother's "ABC-book" which had snarky (more child oriented) rhymes. For 'I' there was

Igelkotten med sin svans
vore rolig om den fanns.

which is Swedish for

The hedgehog with its tail
would be funny if it existed. -- except rhyming and scanning. My poetry skills are sadly lacking.

You know, I recognize some words through German, which is funny.

E is for Erestor.

And in Soledad's world
Erestor gets him
Instead of a girl.

Er, Lindir gets Erestor. Sorry about that.

Re: editorial correction

[identity profile] wiseheart.livejournal.com 2011-10-08 07:48 am (UTC)(link)
No problem. They get each other mutually, after all. And I'm sure that even Elves have lonely nights when they have to entertain themselves...

F is for Finwë,

H is for Haldir

The last rhymes with "Ooo! Well!"

K is for King
