Random weekend events

I already told you about the Archaeology Park, so I can spare that topic. *g*

Elections
They were fun, with lots of childish pouting and name-calling among politicians, especially on the side I consider "the others".

The party I've voting for since the end of the Soviet era won. I'm very happy about it. Fistly, because I can't stand certain arrogant assholes from the opposite side (who, by the way, had caused more than enough harm during their ruling period in 1668-2002, let's just to name their agrarian politics). Secondly, because it's the first time that a government gets the chance to actually try and bring a lot of projects they've started during the recent cycle to a - hopefully - fruitful end.

Until now, the pattern was like this: a certain party won some moderate majority, their allied themselves with one of the minor parties and formed a government. First they stopped all projects of the previous government, then they started their own projects. Before these could have come to an end - whatever end that might have been - we had elections again, and the dissatisfied folk chose the opposite side. We've had this "funny" caroussel
four times, so far. Now we can at least hope that some things will be brought to their end as it was intended.

The icing on the cake is that my dickheaded relatives all voted for the right wing as usual, most likely. Seeing them lose and us win fills me with evil satisfaction. This might be petty, but at least it comes fromt he heart. *g*

Our Easter concert
We sand three Hungarian Easter chorals, two- and three-voiced ones, a two-voiced piece by Händel, an absolutely fabulous four-voiced one by Pitoni, an Alleluia canon and a Bach choral.

I wasn't in my best form. One of the Easter chorals has this killing effect on my throat that I've already mentioned, and it was incredibly hot up on the chorus. I could barely twist out the deepest tones - I don't think anyone but be heard them. Too bad, they are incredibly beautiful.

In any case, Mum says she could recognize my voice in the solo parts, despite the fact that someone else sang them with me, someone who has a much stronger voice. So, all in all, I'm content. I'd love to get a solo part alone one day, but the porblem is that these parts are all slightly above the height I feel absolutely comfortable, and in those regions, my voice simply isn't strong enough. No matter how much I'd like to shine just once, I have to admit that it won't work. Not unless we find a song with really deep solo pieces in it.

Ah, well, it was fun nevertheless. Except of the sermon, which made me realize once again why I've quietly left the Catholic Church some fifteen years ago. They haven't learned a thing! If it's possible at all, they've gotten worse in their self-righteous, self-importante attitude than they were when I fled.

Flood report
We still aren't completely safe. Apparently, it'll take another fortnight till they can stand down from flood alert.

On some places, the dams are breaking, so they have to hurriedly strengthen them. The good news is, this government has actually managed to organize the flood works as they should be organized. People were moved from their houses in time. No one needed to be pulled out of their beds in the middle of the night because the water stood in the house already.

The flood fugitives have been put up in schools and other such places and are taken care of. They even have voluntary helpers from the Caritas to talk to them about their situation. I find that a good thing.

There is no shortage in manpower and/or materials. Sandsacks are aplenty, and the Army is working on all the endangered spots. Those spots are under constant surveillance, so that if the water threatens to break through, soldiers and sandsacks are brought there immediately. I hope so much that the eastern parts of the country would get away with small "bruises" as well. We can see in Romania and Bulgaria what can happen if the authorities aren't well prepared. Thankfully, ours are.

So, that was my weekend, basically. Aside from making asparagus for lunch on Sunday. With parsley potatoes, ham and cheese sauce. Yum!
