I’m not into sport, and every opening ceremony ever has bored me silly. I think that’s where my neurodivergence comes into play — I sincerely have no idea what’s entertaining about such things. I would much rather read a book. I may look at some gymnastics; I find the gymnasts extraordinary and beautiful. But some years I haven’t even bothered to watch any events! I’m just not sports-minded. And that kind of competitive patriotism feels weird. I understand patriotism in the sense of self-defence and also preserving cultural traditions and history, but sports patriotism is a bit of a mystery.
