62 days left...

... and I hereby declare today fandom appreciation day. Questions below in comments as before.

The picture has nothing to do with today's topic. I just wanted to show off my new mini pencil holder that I made yesterday.

Give me a list of your main fandoms - ordered by genre or in one go, as you like. :)

I give you mine ordered by genre because there are just too many of them.

Fantasy:
Tolkienverse,
Merlin (the TV series, despite its shortcomings),
Earthsea,
Taran,
Narnia (some parts)

Science fiction:
Start Trek - all incarnations, save of the stupid J.J. Abrams movies, which I don't accept as part of the Trekkiverse at all;
Stargate - SG1 and Atlantis; as for Universe, see above;
Battlestart Galactica - the 1978 classic; for the rest, see above;
Dr Who - up to the 10th Doctor; I haven't seen the rest, save for 3 episodes with Eleven, so I won't judge;
Torchwood - Seasons 1 & 2; as for the rest, see above;

Murder mysteries:
Agatha Christie - basically everything she wrote;
The very first Miss Marple TV series, the one with Joan Hickson (sp); I didn't like the other two actresses
The Poirot series with David Suchet
The Cadfael books; the TV series was a bitter disappointment
Sherlock - the first two seasons; as for the rest, see ablove

Supernatural and horror:
Kindred: the Embraced (my favourite vampires, ever)
Buffy/Angel - the early seasons
Poltergeist: the Legacy
The Crow (the series with Marc Dacascos, not the film)
Blade - again, the series, although the main character was utter crap; but I liked the background

Okay, I probably forgot half of them, but those are the main ones.

That's right, we've met via [livejournal.com profile] antigwenallies, haven't we? But it seems we share quite a number of other fandoms as well.

[identity profile] wiseheart.livejournal.com 2018-10-08 05:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Indeed. Nobody in Real Life shares my fannish interests, unfortunately. I'm surrounded by ignorants.

[identity profile] adafrog.livejournal.com 2018-10-08 06:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah. And my co-workers generally don't share my horse interests, either, so when I do something cool at a show I can't really express to them how cool it is. :(

Oh, fellow Flash fan! <3

[identity profile] wiseheart.livejournal.com 2018-10-05 04:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, true, I forgot Lucifer! And the Sherlock Holmes books! Thanks for reminding me. :)

Oh man that's really hard to say since I kinda circle through fandoms and I engage with different fandoms differently. There are actually a lot of shows which I'm a fan of without actually being active in fandom.

I have my DC TV superhero shows, foremost Supergirl and The Flash though I follow all of them, which I have been keeping up with for years and adore, but I don't really engage with them outside of watching the show. I follow Arrow, Flash, Supergirl, Legends of Tomorrow and Black Lightning. I believe there are more but I'm waiting for them to be on Netflix.

I also follow Marvel shows, but there are too many so I just the Defenders shows, on which I'm also all woefully behind. But I love the whole continuum of Jessica Jones (which is my fav but I heard so many bad things about season 2 that I'm postponing watching it, I'm kinda dreading that I'll ruin my love for it), Luke Cage, Iron Fist, Daredevil and of course The Defenders.

I watch Once Upon A Time since season 1 though that's another one where I'm always one or two seasons behind.

Brooklyn 99 is the only cop show I follow and it's my Mom's favorite show, so we always watch this one together.

Game of Thrones, which I watch with my Dad, that is his favorite show.

Right now I'm watching iZombie with Mom and we're both enjoying it a lot. Still on season 1, though. Unless it takes a turn I dislike I think this is gonna go on the list of shows I follow, though.

RWBY is the only ongoing cartoon I follow though everybody keeps telling me to give Voltron a try but the fandom wank has scared me off so far. I'm kinda fandom-involved in that I know a lot of people who are also into it and so I talk to them about it.

There's Call the Midwife which I keep up with but again, don't engage in fandom with.

Star Trek: Discovery, of course.

The whole large slew of the Star Wars franchise, with my focus being mostly on the anthology movies (yes, even Solo, I actually loved Solo.)

Detroit: Become Human is my newest fandom and of course very unusual in being a video game fandom. I finally have one!

I'm sure I forgot a lot, I'm bad with lists. Then there are also these old fandom loves I still adore but don't really *do* anything with right now. I'll eventually cycle back to them.

Oh! I should mention The Expanse, which I only watched one season of and so I don't feel like it should count but I really enjoyed it.

I'm waiting patiently for you to cycle back to our once shared fandoms. :))

I'll get there!

I certainly hope so! We ought to do something about [livejournal.com profile] gaheris_lives eventually. And you need that icon back!

[identity profile] jenn-calaelen.livejournal.com 2018-10-06 12:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh - hard question! Partly because I just seem to gain more fandoms - I rarely totally drop one, but float through were I spend time/energy/thought!

I've hardly been reading or writing fic this year (except for going back and reading favourites for comfort reading).

Middle Earth was my first fandom, and is always one that I tend to be involved in - although finding good fic to read can be so demoralising (as it involved wading through so much junk).
Stargate (SG1/Atlantis) to some degree, although I've floated away from the fandom mostly but I still want to finish the stories I started writing in it.
Babylon 5/Crusade
Swallows and Amazons

Then many tiny fandoms - which I'm not even going to try to list all of. But mostly if there is a book I love, I'd read fic if there was fic for it; and might write it (given time/energy/prompts).

I kind of lurk on the edge of Star Wars fandom, but the amount of different canon makes it too scary for me to try and write (and yes, I know most people don't know or follow everything)
I've been avoiding Game of Thrones/ASoIaF fandom for the last year or more, due to never having got as far as watching the last season of GoT and not wanting avoidable spoilers.
Ditto floating away from Star Trek fandom as I haven't seen Discovery yet.

Oh, and being excited about new Doctor Who, although I'm very picky about what fic I'll read in that fandom!

And probably many more, but this probably gives a vague idea :)

[identity profile] wiseheart.livejournal.com 2018-10-08 05:23 pm (UTC)(link)
It's interesting to see that we actually share quite a few fandoms beyond the Tolkienverse.

[identity profile] wiseheart.livejournal.com 2018-10-04 05:34 pm (UTC)(link)
In which of those fandoms are you active as a fanfic writer/reader?

In all of them, I'm afraid. I can't help it. And I love crossovers, too, both writing and reading.

[identity profile] spikesgirl58.livejournal.com 2018-10-04 05:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Man from UNCLE, Sapphire and Steel, Invisible Man, Doctor, Who, Minions, Buffy, and a whole mess of crossovers.

[identity profile] spikesgirl58.livejournal.com 2018-10-04 07:43 pm (UTC)(link)
What was your strangest one?

[identity profile] wiseheart.livejournal.com 2018-10-04 08:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Do you mean the ones I read or the ones I wrote? *g*

[identity profile] wiseheart.livejournal.com 2018-10-04 08:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, there is the LotR/Forgotten Realms crossover called "The Web of Darkness" - I'm very proud of that one. And then the Star Trek Voyager/Babylon 5 one, "Still Not in Kansas" and its as-yet unfinished sequel, "The Yellow Brick Road". And, of course, the massive vampire crossover epic, "Pathways in the Dark", that keeps eating every even distantly related fandom and grows like an octopus. It has several stories - one of them even gobbled up the US version of "Queer As Folk". Not to mention the Torchwood/SGA crossovers, "Torchwoodgate" and "Atlantis Café". And there's the "Beautiful Minds" series that's a fusion between Dr Who, Torchwood and Sherlock, with mighty AU twists. Oh, and "Adventures of a Consulting Time Lord", in which Sherlock is the 13th Doctor, Mycroft is a Time Lord, Mummy is Mycroft's TARDIS and Anthea is Mycroft's android ninja assassin. *g*

As I said, crossovers are fun, and I do write an awful lot.

[identity profile] spikesgirl58.livejournal.com 2018-10-04 09:03 pm (UTC)(link)
I should certainly say so. :D

[identity profile] adafrog.livejournal.com 2018-10-05 02:50 am (UTC)(link)
Answered up above about the reading.
I have written in Battlestar Galactica, La Femme Nikita, Chronicles of Riddick, Torchwood/Dr Who, tiny bit of SGA.
Haven't truly written anything fanfic for a year or two.

With certain writers I will try almost any fandom.

[identity profile] wiseheart.livejournal.com 2018-10-08 05:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Which Battlestar Galactica?
sammydragoncat: (Default)

[personal profile] sammydragoncat 2018-10-05 07:08 am (UTC)(link)
Well, I don't write - I do read fan fic somtimes mostly Torchwood, evey so often Smallville

[identity profile] wiseheart.livejournal.com 2018-10-05 04:29 pm (UTC)(link)
And you are a most gracious reader who always gives supportive feedback. *hugs*

Foremost Star Wars, of course. I write mostly for Rogue One and Solo, sometimes for the Sequel Trilogy and Rebels.

I'm reading mostly Detroit: Become Human right now, dunno if it will become a writing fandom. I'd like it to, though. It's casefic-centric fandom and I've never had a casefic fandom! It's all new to me and pretty exciting.

As for reading, beyond those mostly Game of Thrones and Supergirl. Sometimes RWBY. I used to be really into OUAT fic.

[identity profile] wiseheart.livejournal.com 2018-10-05 04:30 pm (UTC)(link)
What I enjoy in the Sherlock fandom most are well-written casefics. Unfortunately, they're rare as hens' teeth. Everybody and their uncle write utterly boring, repetitive and OOC slash stories.
artemis10002000: (knitting)

[personal profile] artemis10002000 2018-10-05 04:44 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm quite curious to see if my new interest in casefics will last - maybe even long enough to try my hand at one (probably not, since working through some murder mystery would be longer than what I usually write and take more plotting than I have the energy for these days.) For now it's certainly an interesting experience. None of my other current fandoms lend themselves well to casefic.

Ooooh, that pencil holder is lovely!

Thanks. :) It's a small one, made of a tin can for Tomatenmark, with some felt, burlap and thin cord.
