French Trip, Day 2 - Part 2

Despite our worries, we actually managed to see Fribourg. We've seen the St Nicholas cathedral, which was absolutely beautiful, the Notre Dame basilica, which was not remarkable at all, and walked a bit along the river, which was a great sight. We bought a few postcards, some of which Mum promptly forgot in the basilica, and rushed off to leave for Lyon.

Picspam behind the tag.

Some beautiful pics of the cathedral.

The tower:

The portal:

In the inside:

Just a street:

Pretty landscapes:

Although I must admit in all honesty that I wasn't particularly impressed by the Swiss landscpe. The mountains didn't even come close to the impressive, mythical wildness of those of Austria, and we only got small glimplses from Lac Léman.

On the other hand, part of the route to Lyon was breath-taking. Enormous cliffs desceded in terraces to deep seas, huge viaducts arched over abysses, on several levels, and all the tunnels were doubled there: you could only go in one direction, and you could not change the route you started on. I guess it lessens the chance of car accidents, which is a reasonble thing.

And finally - because I forgot to insert the picture - the not-so-remarkable Notre Dame basilica:

Next time: Lyon. Yeah, we're actually going to France! Stay tuned!

Nice. I'll keep that in mind for Swiss landscape and consider Austria instead. Lyon sounds wonderful. Can't wait for the pics. I know there's a mountain in Japan that does the one-way roads too. Didn't realize it was in France. Thanks for including such a random fact. It's actually pretty interesting to me. I'll probably even mention it to my Japan geography-loving friend.

Well, to be fair to Switzerland, more experienced travellers told me that we were crossing a rather tame part of it and that it is different elsewhere. :)

Yep, Lyon was pretty, but, well, it's a big city. It can't even get close in things beauty to the small towns like La Roque Gagéac, Domme, Carcassonne, Rocamadour or Aigues-Mortes, to name just a few. You'll see. I've made an awful lot of pics.

That's good. Aren't digital cameras wonderful things? I remember when we had film cameras and were much more limited.
